We had a last minute change of travel plans, so hadn't got any accommodation booked when we arrived in Husavik. Luckily we came across Guesthouse Arbol, where the owner was really helpful, and we were able to stay in his apartment; less than five minutes from the main guesthouse in a quiet neighbourhood. The apartment was HUGE and really nicely decorated in a 70s style. Our room was a family room, so we had lots of space to spread out, and we were the only guests staying there, so had sole use of the shared bathroom and kitchen. In the morning, we walked over to the main hotel for breakfast, which was a really nice spread of cereals, breads, jams, juices, cheese etc. Husavik is pretty small, so the harbour was only a very short walk. We'd definitely stay here agin if we were ever back in the area, which was one of our favourites of our trip.

Our quad-room is with great river view and garden. You can use shared kitchen to cook and every guest tried they best to keep it clean. Breakfast is fantastic. Owner offered a local fish dishes but I didn't try.:)

Book whale watching through owner if you haven't. It'll be cheaper

In terms of location, Husavik is so small that there really isn't a bad accommodation location. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the room clean. We somehow missed the fact that it was a private room-community bathroom situation, so that was a bit strange. It was also very easy to hear every other guest in the building, making it a bit difficult to sleep. Breakfast had a great selection and parking was easy.

I stayed with my husband and my little son 3 nights in this guesthouse. We had a warm welcome by the host. the second day he didn't consider us anymore (even entered our room with his key while we were in, excusing himself by not remembering us being in this room!!!!!). the room we had was ok, although very small, considering that we also had a baby cot in it. there were bigger rooms, being rented out to people who arrived without reservation. We booked several months in advance.
for the rest, everything was clean, breakfast was good; that's why I give three points.

We came to see the northern lights. We stayed four nights during what is, to be fair, the *very* low season for this part of Iceland. The owner was working hard to renovate the upstairs rooms, so we lucked into a large four-person room for just the two of us. So, even though there weren't double beds, we had a huge room and lots of space to put our stuff. We basically had the run of the first floor as we were the only guests. The room was clean and quiet, the bathroom was spacious and warm, even though it was quite cold outside. Tolli, the owner, was full of information about the area and very interesting to talk to. We'll definitely be back.
