“Very disappointed - terrible food, tiny rooms, way overpriced - don't believe the website!”
Reviewed August 3, 2013 via mobile

I stayed here one night with my husband on our two-week trip around the ring road. It was both the most expensive and the worst hotel we stayed in. We had been lookin forward to it as a "splurge" because their website made it look fancy and relaxing. In reality, our room was tiny and non-descript (with construction going on right outside all day), the spa was adequate but not more, and the restaurant was TERRIBLE. I echo what other reviewers have said - I ordered the vegetarian option and got a mushy curry with a hair in it. When I told the waitress about the hair, she just shrugged and said she would tell the chef - and that meal was one of the most expensive we had in the country. Breakfast was equally disappointing. I am still angry enough about this place to write a review two months later!

The first impression is some time wrong: this hotel is located in a beautiful place, there is a sauna and a hot pot, but:
there is no cold water to refresh after the sauna, and this is quite dangerous
the employees (or owner, i don´t know) are not very friendly
the breakfast is terrible, the worst we had in twelve days, like in a one star hotel in a suburb.
the dinner is very expensive, but we were wise enough to eat out of there.

The only good point is that it is quiet and the beds are confortables.

After 2 weeks on the road, we had looked very forward to Hof and Skaftafell. Called the place before our arrival and spoke to the owner. She informed us that there would be no grilling or cooking facilities as this was a proper hotel. Upon our arrival, we were asked to choose our menu ahead of time. Strangely for being a hotel, they had only 2 dinner options - fish or vegetable stew. Reluctantly but still hopeful we signed up for the fish at Kr 4500 per person. Having dined in Reykjavik and around the country side, we thought this was rather steep. This is definitely a canteen and not a full service restaurant as the prices indicated. Further more, when the food did arrive, it was absolutely over cooked and tasteless and to make things worse, the side order of vegetables we clearly from a frozen package!! When we complained we were told very politely that the owner would be in only at breakfast time and we should complain to her. We were told that she had been informed about our dissatisfaction.
To top it off, the following mornings breakfast was equally pathetic. The owner was in, but chose to ignore us and we left paying in full - expensive, tasteless, rude and ripped off.
I think that these kind of establishments are a perfect tourist trap - they have a good setting and believe in ripping people off as there are not many choices around this area. Stay away!

A contrasting accommodation site with some rooms (summerhouses) being small and crowded but The White House being spacious and friendly for a group (family) tour. Nestled under mountains with great views across the plains. If you are hoping for a traditional farmhouse this isnt the place for you. Just one hot tub inside which is a shame due to number of guests and could easily be expanded to include at least one more inside and one or two outside, sauna was clean and spacious. Food was average - all set meals with no options, even one choice for mains when staying for 2 or 3 nights would be beneficial. Very close to Skaftafell and Ingolfshofdi but due to poor weather the accommodation would benefit from a drying room or dryer facilities for its guests - and there's plenty of room to put them.

We were worried that this hotel may not be as good as the ones we had stayed in up to now and we were right. When we arrived we were given a rushed welcome and some vague instructions to a Summer House. The summer house room was quite small and the double bed booked, was completely two separate beds. There was a shared bathroom but the walls were so thin we heard every bathroom movement the other occupants made. I mean everything not very pleasant. Our windows didn't have curtains or blinds on the upper windows so the light streamed in. Being summer this was not conducive to a good night's sleep. We decided to use the wifi in the sitting area in the main hotel building. But this was over run with kids tearing around yelling and a lady who decided the sofa was a good place to change her babies nappy.
Breakfast was pretty ordinary. Bread, toast and cereal. All in all a pretty disappointing stay.

Stayed for one evening last week and was extremely disappointed. We were expecting it to be more like a farm stay as we discovered it under a list of farm stays in Iceland. These are nice and rustic and often have hot tubs outside.

Hof Hotel reminded me of the sort of places one might stay on a school trip. Absolutely no charm or soul. They have spent some money on doing up the communal areas though in reality they shouldn't have bothered as the place has no atmosphere and the fixtures and fittings are cheap and tacky.

As others have said the dinner charge was outrageous, and what you get is tasty enough but does not justify the price.

The "Spa" is an absolute joke. There is a sauna but no cold shower to cool off in afterwards so you don't get any of the benefits of using the sauna. There is a hot tub but it had a thick film of dirt and oil on top of it when I went in, obviously hadn't been cleaned in days. Not to mention that the Spa was in a basement and being in there felt like being in a basement, not great if you are trying to relax.

In the pre-fab accommodation units there are very thin walls so you can hear everything.

If I had to find positives about this hotel I would say that the beds were quite comfy and the staff seemed friendly enough. I would really recommend staying away from here though, there are a lot better places to stay

This hotel is ideally situated for visiting the Skaftafell national park and for glacier tours. We had a room in the main building, which was very clean although the room was not very big, as there was no room to store our 2 suitcases so that we could open them (had to place them on the bed every time when you needed something). The facilities are shared and there is an interior hottub. Wifi is available only in the common area.
Staff was friendly although checking out took some time.
They serve dinner, but you can only choose between two dishes.
The quality is acceptable, but fairly high priced for what is offered. But is is convenient when you are around the hotel as most other places you can eat are located at 20 or more than kilometers.
Contrary breakfast is super with a lot of choices, they serve even smoked salmon.
We had some discomfort from other guests that used the common bathroom to dry swimming gear and clothes what gave some problems when wanting to take a shower...
