This hotel is very minimalist, but the restaurant is excellent and the staff of the hotel are among the nicest people I have ever met. They were especially in helping with a travel disaster when the tour company dumped me. I can't say enough good things about them.

Room Tip: Ask for glacier view.

The wife and I just spent three days in Hofn and stayed at the Hotel Hofn as part of a Northern Lights tour package 18 Feb through 20 Feb 2014 . The staff and owner were very accommodating even though the weather was less than perfect for viewing the Northern Lights. The staff offered to wake us up should the weather clear and the lights were to be visible.

I highly recommend taking the van tour to the glaciers and the glacier lagoon. The lobster soup is excellent.

A few choice before my trip to east Iceland. After visiting Ice Largoon and 1 hour's driving, my wife and I arrived the hotel. Hofn is peace town with a few hotels. This one is the best I thought. But, my room was not in the main building which did not mentioned when I reserved it. It's not far to main building. But in a cold early morning, we have to wear more and walk to main building for breakfast. The room was small but comfortale and clean. Breakfast is good. Only the cost was over priced.

Room Tip: Book the room in main building. Its easy to access restaurant.

Spent two nights at Hofn hotel, 30 Nov - 1 Dec 2013 . Great experience all round. Hosts extremely friendly, room lovely ( only downfall not having coffee/tea making facilities in the room or in hotel throughout the day), excellent restaurant and terrific breakfast, and located amid amazing scenery. Highly recommend, especially Ronni Hauksson as your northern lights guide and Gisli your chef.

If you are looking for a place to crash for the night, this is a good place. However, that is where it ends. The place is definitely not value for money - Prices are what you pay for a good hotel while the place is run more like a hostel. The restaurant is shabby and under stocked and really under staffed. The staff is helpful and friendly - however, there was just 1 person who was shared between the reception and the restaurant giving you the feeling they could use some help.
however, the rooms are clean and freah with amazing views over the sea and glaciers. I was lucky to get one of the more spacious rooms so no complaints on that front.

Upon arrival, our host, Osinn, welcomed us and spent about 45 minutes orienting us to the area. We decided to rent an SUV as there were four of us. What a great idea. While the weather didn't cooperate for Northern Lights viewing, they were willing to call in the middle of the night to take us out. The staff was very helpful and the food in the restaurant great. The rooms were small, but clean. Don't know how you can expect luxurious and lavish accommodations in a small fishing town of 1200. It just doesn't seem the Icelandic way. We didn't mind at all as we didn't spend that much time in the room anyway. Great thanks to Osinn, Tomas, Heather and Elizabeth! If we get back to Iceland, we will definitely visit you again.

Room Tip: Main building is where we stayed. We had a great view of the ocean inlet and glacier, but also an e...

Feel like a hostel, reminded me of school dorm. The best part is the service. Staffs are exceptional helpful. Rooms are clean but expect no-frills. I got one of the bigger rooms so it was spacious and comfy. This is one of the bigger hotels there. No lifts so if you are staying on the 3rd floor be prepared for some exercise. Breakfast is your average standard. There is nothing wrong with the hotel but really nothing to write home about either. I also drove around Hofn and it is not really a resort town so I don’t expect there are a lot more better choices around.
