Upon arrival, our host, Osinn, welcomed us and spent about 45 minutes orienting us to the area. We decided to rent an SUV as there were four of us. What a great idea. While the weather didn't cooperate for Northern Lights viewing, they were willing to call in the middle of the night to take us out. The staff was very helpful and the food in the restaurant great. The rooms were small, but clean. Don't know how you can expect luxurious and lavish accommodations in a small fishing town of 1200. It just doesn't seem the Icelandic way. We didn't mind at all as we didn't spend that much time in the room anyway. Great thanks to Osinn, Tomas, Heather and Elizabeth! If we get back to Iceland, we will definitely visit you again.

Room Tip: Main building is where we stayed. We had a great view of the ocean inlet and glacier, but also an e...

Feel like a hostel, reminded me of school dorm. The best part is the service. Staffs are exceptional helpful. Rooms are clean but expect no-frills. I got one of the bigger rooms so it was spacious and comfy. This is one of the bigger hotels there. No lifts so if you are staying on the 3rd floor be prepared for some exercise. Breakfast is your average standard. There is nothing wrong with the hotel but really nothing to write home about either. I also drove around Hofn and it is not really a resort town so I don’t expect there are a lot more better choices around.

We stayed in Hotel Hofn for two nights during a trip through South Iceland.
The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, but there was limited space for storing bags, or table space for placing electronics while charging.

The bathroom was very small and poorly laid out - the small shelf was directly above the sink, which gave you limited access to the faucet, and the toilet was right next to the shower.

The staff were very friendly and helpful - we asked for a wake-up call for the Northern Lights, which you can view from a deck on the side of the building. Unfortunately, there is a lot of light pollution from the road.

Breakfast was decent, with plenty of variety for bread, cheese, cold cuts, boiled eggs, cereal, fruit and pastries.

We did not try the hotel for dinner - the menu was limited and quite expensive, but so was the other restaurant in town (Kaffi Hornid).

Hofn was an ok stopover before we took the long drive back towards Reykjavik, but there really wans't much to do in town in October.

Hotel Hofn would do well to look at various glaring problems my husband and I encountered in a 2 day stay. Upon arrival the greeting was good, and the receptionist was very helpful about the Northern Lights and unprompted by us asked if we would like a call in the night should they be spotted. That was nice. Then we were informed that we were in fact staying in a separate building in the grounds, one of 3 each containing several bedrooms each. Our room was far too small and had so little space for us to put our luggage. We noticed through open doors much bigger rooms, which remained unoccupied, so we couldn't understand why we weren't offered one of them instead. The television was tiny and the reception was almost non existent (although, obscurely in every sense, we could just make out an episode of Inspector Frost), the bathroom was also small, again with nowhere to put anything except a shelf over the basin which may have accommodated our sponge bags but prevented us from easily reaching the taps to brush our teeth. The curtains came off the rail when we pulled them across and the locks on the window were faulty. The breakfast was served back in the main hotel, the usual help yourself buffet. We seemed to be the only guests staying, so the lack of interest was apparent, and the whole air was one of negligence. There were no staff on hand but eventually one appeared so we were able to alert them to the fact there were no spoons and no milk left out. There is really nothing to recommend this hotel. The trouble is it is the only hotel in the area so all visitors are a captured market. However, it seems a shame they can't strive to be the best they can be and take pride in good service.

We laughed that this was rated #1 hotel in Hofn--so we determined it must be the only hotel in Hofn as we'd had high hopes! The hotel is comprised of several buildings, none of them anything special. Breakfast was nothing great--probably least favorite of anywhere else we stayed in Iceland. It wasn't a bad hotel, they did have free wifi, just not what you'd expect from a hotel rated #1 on Tripadvisor! That said, the town is tiny and this was a pretty big place. It was easy to walk to the town and the shore--nothing much to see there except a grocery store and a shop or two... Be sure to check if the Northern Lights are visible, there's a website dedicated to this--we were here the end of August and the Northern Lights were strong the night we were there! Very cool...Also, be sure to bring LOTS of hair conditioner as all of Iceland has very hard water loaded with minerals.

We spent a night at the Hotel Hofn on our drive along the South coast. The hotel is on the outskirts of Hofn with a great view of the mountains and the glacier. The main building is new with a contemporary design. Alas we were in the annex across the road. Our room was clean but pretty ordinary. The TV was one of the smallest we have ever seen in a hotel. The curtains were hung away from the wall so lots of light came into the room--an odd design flaw given the short summer nights. The staff was very friendly and helped us plan our next day's drive. Given the limited choices this is a good place to stop in Hofn.

We stayed for one night only at this hotel after leaving Vik. The hotel has the most amazing views of the glaciers. The room was small on the second floor. We had no issues with the stairs. This was our third hotel since we arrived in Iceland and we discovered that they all had the same problems. The pillows! Other than that, the room was very clean and the staff was very friendly. The breakfast buffet was disappointing. However, we had a great dinner at their Ossin restaurant.
