We went to Jokulsarlon early in the day, and decided to book the 6:40 p.m. zodiac tour based on our guide book's recommendation. After leaving our email address with them in case anything changed, we went to go hike in Skaftafell. We based our hiking plans on the expectation that we would be doing the 6:40 p.m. tour, especially since we never received an email informing us otherwise. Nevertheless, upon arriving back at the lagoon at 6:15, we were informed that the tour was canceled. This was pretty frustrating given the fact that we cut our hike short and the lagoon was an hour in the opposite direction from where we were staying, and we would have appreciated prior notification that the tour was canceled.

This was one of the highlights of our trip to Iceland. Absolutely magic! With seals swimming around us, and suits provided to keep us warm, we were taken right to the edge of the glacier, where we could hear the ice breaking into the lagoon. One of the most beautiful places on earth for sure!

We had a reservation for the 12:45 boat. Our preceeding activity ran late (out of our control) and we got to the check in at 12:40--in time to make our reservation. They wouldn't let us on our boat and while we waited in line they booked 2 people ahead of us (people with no reservation) on the next boat. We booked the 5:30 boat, drove 1 hour to do some hiking, and came back for check in at 5:00 to find they had cancelled the rest of the trips that day, without letting us know not to bother with the drive all the way back out there. Not great.

Watching icebergs break off glaciers and float in a lagoon out to the sea by a black sand beach is beyond breathtaking. The blue ice was magical and we even saw a seal playing in the lagoon. So worth the drive to Jokulsorun. Great for kids too.

Really great explanations and it's absolutely wonderful to swerve around huge icebergs then slow down to hear the thin ice break underneath the zodiac. We even saw a seal and went very close to the where the glacier breaks off into the water. Simply amazing and absolutely beautiful
