“Poor quality room”
Reviewed October 30, 2013 via mobile

We arrived in the evening. I have two teenage sons that wanted to use the wifi, well it wasn't working. Not really an issue.
Major problem was we couldn't use the shower as the drain was blocked in our family room, causing the bathroom to flood. Also the toilet flush was broken causing water to run noisily all night. I am amazed how they managed to clean the bathroom before our visit without noticing these issues, especially the drain.

The location is great for trips out to see the ice and the glaciers. The hotel - as all in Iceland is over-warm. My room was small and pokey with two single beds, the bathroom was again small and unfinished. The floor I was on looked as if it had recently been refurbished or built, in that it looks like a self-build in that was poorly designed and executed with not much thought gone into it.

Some very simple things could have improved my experience greatly, interested staff for one, having my room cleaned would have been nice as it seemed impossible not to take sand and grit upstairs despite removing outdoor clothes and shoes downstairs. The wifi only available downstairs was inconsistent at best and non-existent at times. The breakfast buffet was simple but adequate and plentiful with juices, cereals, toast, cheese and meats. The evening meals were average, serving them hot rather than lukewarm would have improved them, the presentation was careless. Cofee and tea were available at all times downstairs which was a definite plus though always lukewarm. A bit like y experience of the place!

I stayed here one night as part of Extreme Iceland's 2day south coast tour. With Extreme Iceland, I booked the package "single room with shared bath" and ended up staying in one of the cottages which had its own bathroom, so I wasn't complaining. I ended up turning off the heaters and opening the window, and although it was cold outside, I felt super cozy sleeping that way. The dinner was not included in the tour and you are given 4-5 options and I went with the arctic char, which I had never had before and really enjoyed it. Another member of our group got the lamb, and she shared some with me. I can tell you that based on lamb I had elsewhere in Iceland, this lamb was far superior.
The views were amazing. You are sitting right between the mountains and the ocean. Although the night was clear, we didn't see the northern lights, but I did see the milky way very clear in the sky.

The only gripes I had were that wifi was spotty, and was only available in the lobby, and the breakfast was, how do I put this nicely? ...very basic.

I stayed there for a night as we needed a place closer to the Jokulsarlon Lagoon. It is 13 kms away from the Lagoon going towards Hofn. From Route 1, a road leads down to the guesthouse. We did not want to travel any further as it was late in the evening and were tired from all the traveling. Hofn is further 85 kms from the guesthouse.

It is a small guesthouse and one can see the Ocean from here. There is big open space outside and does not feel cluttered. We had booked a Standard room and the room was average in size but neat and clean and had enough storage space to keep our stuff. There were two twin beds in our room. The bathroom was also average size and in good condition.

The breakfast was very basic consisting of cereals, milk, tea, coffee, some bread with different spreads, boiled eggs and some fruits.

Wifi was available but connectivity was not very good.

Overall a comfortable stay!!

We stayed here recently whilst on a photo shoot for an English magazine. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The rooms where/are basic but due to the amazing location you don't spend much time in them. On a clear night you can see the stars so clearly and if you are lucky the Northern lights. Do remember these mainly happened towards the north so if you are out looking for them take the time to drive to the Glacier Lagoon where your view north won't be obscured by the mountain behind the hotel. Check the solar activity forecast with reception and they will let you know if there is a chance of seeing them. Don't waste money on Northern Lights excursions as if the do happen they will be pretty much above you where ever you are in Iceland. The food was great especially their own farm reared lamb. Plenty on offer for breakfast every morning too. Don't miss the sunrise every morning (if it's clear) and take the time to walk to the bottom of the field in front of the hotel to experience it. The glacier lagoon is an amazing experience any time of the year. If you are a photographer don't forget your tripod as time lapse photography here is a must. Look out for the seals in the lagoon before the tide turns every morning. If you cross the road from the lagoon over to the beach side you will find another amazing photo opportunity. When the tide turns it pulls icebergs out of the lagoon and places them on the black volcanic beach. This is one of the most amazing natural wonders I've experienced on all my travels. On a good day you will find so many for you to walk between that it feels a bit like a nice sculpture exhibition. Be quick though as when the tide changes it picks up what hasn't been melted and returns them to the lagoon. Check the tide times as this is well worth the wait. With regards to tech at the hotel. They do have wifi in the reception and lounge area only. This is free and of a good speed that will hold video chats. Mobile connection is also good here. My top tip is don't forget your PJs as it gets very chilly at night. Enjoy your stay

As others mentioned, it's a good location but very basic accommodations. Great base for exploring the Jokulsarlon. Room furnishings consisted of a bed, nightstand, some shelves and a rack to hang jackets. Not much storage room, and no decorations. Beds are comfortable, but there is no concept of a queen or twin that I saw in Iceland. We had two beds pushed together, which creates a little gap towards the end of the night.

The food was alright. Keep in mind, your meals are charged separately ( I don't remember if you can add it as a flat rate), so each item you order will cost you. However, unless you ask, you won't know until you check out. Cost is not terrible, and it's not like you have many other options. There is nothing around really.

The immediate surroundings are gorgeous. You get a beach view on one side, pasture and farmland on another, a huge green mountain range, split by small waterfalls on the third, and a glimpse of a snowy glacier on the forth. Note: Must be a clear day to see, when we arrived, visibility was about 200 meters, so much of the beauty was initially obscured.

As another reviewer mentioned, they did not advertise fireworks, which were awe inspiring as they were fired over a glacial lagoon. We were doing the boat tour in the lagoon and found out about it there.

Hosts are very nice, helpful, and available. Would stay here again, mostly because of the location.Would rate place a 3, but location bumps it up one for me.

I would stay here again, but only because of the location. Only 13km from Jokusarlon.

Rooms are expensive for what you get. We booked a room with a shared bathroom. It was located away from the main guesthouse. Shared bathrooms were clean. Bedrooms were basic, with no character.

Staff didnt say much on check in, they didn't even mention a fireworks display that was happening that night at Jokusarlon, if we hadn't been told about this in Reykjavik we would have missed it. I thought they would have at least had signs up advertising it.

Would recommend for location alone, as somewhere to sleep, but do not expect anything more than average from the hotel.
