Gerdi Guesthouse

This is one of the many farm guesthouses in Iceland. You are on farm property, surrounded by a few other buildings, houses, and a restaurant, all owned by the same extended family. The guesthouse is two floors, with a large eating area on the ground floor, and rooms above. The rooms are clean and modern, large bathroom, comfortable beds. You either have views of the ocean or the mountains.

Our arrival was a little awkward; no one was in the guesthouse, so we went next door and the lady there came down and gave us a room. Language was an issue, but we figured it all out. We felt at home here (only one other couple in the whole building), and everyone we met was helpful and friendly. The restaurant just up the road was amazing, considering the location of this farm.

This is a great place to stay when seeing any of the Southeast attractions. It's only a couple of minutes to Jökulsárlón (the Iceberg Lagoon). It is an easy day's drive from Reykjavik, so if doing the ring road, it's a great first night stop. Farmholidays.is arranged this for us.

We have stared at Gerði a couple of times before. Its virtue is its location - a mere 10-12 kms from the glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón. The accommodations, however, are rather basic. The bathroom is of poor design with water splashing all over the place when you shower. Internet is free but available only in the breakfast area downstairs. The farmer who runs it is friendly but has not really given the place the thought it deserves to make it a great experience which it has the potential to be.

Dinner and room were ok, but we payed for room and breakfast twice and never got our money back.
We were asked to pay for room and breakfast at check in, so we did.
The next morning we checked out. We had to pay for dinner and drinks but were charged for room and breakfast the second time plus dinner and drinks.
As we realized that mistake we called the guest house and they promised to send the money back. That was two month ago and we are still waiting for the money. I wrote several emails and each time the promised to send the money back within the next days but I guess that will never happen.
Prices in Iceland are far above the rest of europe, so 180 Euro for one night at a guest house with shared bathroom is much, but 360 € is in discussable.

I would stay here all over again! A true guesthouse so don't expect luxury, just nice clean rooms with comfy beds an nice bathrooms. We got warm, friendly service. A perfect location to trek through breathtaking glaciers and black sand beaches (with icebergs on the beach!). The farmhouse is not really located in hofn, in fact it's about 40 mins away. Instead the guesthouse is in Gerdi, a small road of the main road. So when driving there, pay attention, if you are too busy paying attention to the breathtaking views around it you may miss the guesthouse. There are no words to describe the beauty of Iceland except "go see it!"

Loved this place. Great showers and nice quiet rooms close to major attractions of area. Breakfast was good but only a hard boiled egg. No scrambled or omelets. Otherwise adequate breakfast. Dinners not included were freshly made and delicious, but like everywhere in Iceland, not cheap. Hotel stay, however, very reasonable price.

Booked Gerdi guesthouse since it's close to both Jokulsarlon (10 min) and Skaftafell (<1 hr). Really beautiful location with mountains on one side, ocean on the other, and a view of the glaciers in the distance. Two of us stayed in a cosy cabin with a private bathroom. Staff is helpful - even though the guesthouse doesn't provide hair dryers for guests, one of the staff immediately went to get her personal hair dryer for me to borrow for the night. Would recommend if you are making a stop in the area.

Three of us stayed at Gerdi farm inn. They notified us in advanca that they don't have a room with private toilets. Instead, Bjorn offered us a free dinner, which was a good value considering Icelandic prices. The dinner was very good, local grown trout and delicious baby potatoes,

The accomodation was very clean, functional, room on a smallish side. Compared to similar places in the area, Bjorn's inn was very competitively priced. The inn is located on a working farm, in a breathtaking location between high cliffs and a sea inlet. I went around exploring the area and it was truly a great experience.

Unfortunately, I left an expensive pair of Steiner binoculars in the room as we were leaving next morning. I did not notice this until the next day and called Bjorn. He and his staff went looking and located the binoculars, then went to Hofn and shipped it to to the car rental agency at the airport. I was able to pick them up before i left Iceland.

I am very happy with my stay with Gerdi guesthouse. Despite few wrinkles, I think that Bjorn and his staff are doing a great job.

Warmly recommended.
