“A excellent end to our tour.”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

Having spent previous nights in a hostel, Hali was a very welcome 'step up' for our next 2 nights.
What a pleasure, well presented, clean & cosy rooms, functionally furnished to a very high standard with quality fittings in the bathroom - the under-floor heating an added comfort!
Our group were together in one of the newer buildings furthest from the Restaurant/Museum with a view out over the sea - very tranquil.
The working farm continues with the Icelandic tradition of using fresh home produce coupled with locally caught fish, wonderful to the discerning palate, all expertly prepared 'in house'.
I am a lover of all things 'fishy' so thoroughly enjoyed the Arctic Chard presented in 3 different ways. Also available, Lamb, cooked 'pink' (which isn't to everyone's liking) plus another meat dish, something for every taste. Soup, salad & various vegetables to complement the meal. Those who enjoyed a sweet were pleased with the choice.
Breakfasts were wholesome & ample for the start of a busy days sightseeing; lots of cereals, yoghurts, cold cuts, home baked breads & pastries & the usual beverages.
We had a packed lunch each day - this consisted of a huge sandwich made with home baked bread & a cake for the group to share, all very enjoyable!

Hotel Hali has got many things right and something's wrong. On arrival every member of our party of six was given a letter apologizing for the extensive building work going on adjacent to their modern accommodation bloc and the inference was that as a result the rather expensive tariff would be reduced. Disappointingly this did not materialize. This farming family is building quite an empire and the building of additional accommodation blocks continues apace. These are situated some distance from the reception, restaurant and impressive museum [free entry for guests]. Accommodation is potentially good with cosy under floor heating and modern fittings although the plumbing hasn’t been sorted, the water in the shower wasn’t warm enough and the taps only trickled. Some bedrooms are positioned adjacent to the kitchen and lounge area which must be a pain for those wanting an early night’s sleep and there are late night revellers using the lounge, we were warned off from using it by the farmer’s wife. Evening meals are expensive, with various combinations of home reared lamb and arctic char which were tasty and well-cooked however the other parts of the main courses were rather strange with little piles of what appeared to be tinned vegetables [some cold] and salad and the origin of the “new” potatoes rather suspect, they certainly weren’t fresh out of the garden. Breakfasts were ample and tasty, with lots of lovely freshly cooked bread and waffles. Despite our “problems “we enjoyed our stay very much, the farm location is lovely with the sea at the front and the backdrop of a massive mountain side. The farming family is very friendly and we readily forgive the high price and the lack of discount for the building work because one night on answering the door to my room the farmer’s wife informed me in a very matter of fact way that “the lights are out”. What a bonus to our September adventure. The sight of the “lights” dancing on the mountain made our wonderful holiday complete. Oh and the expensive buffet option for dinner ends on 31st Aug.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms next to the kitchen area as they could be noisy.

We stayed as a family of four, but the two rooms were not in the same building..... The rooms were spacious but very minimally furnished, with no charm. Our bathroom, not shared, was well equipped with an Italian shower, which was a plus after a day of hiking. The view on the ocean was supposed to be nice but the rooms literally faced the parking lot, so no intimacy and no view, plus the noise of the other guests walking on the gravel. The meal in the restaurant was good, but expensive for the quality. Breakfast was good. The positive aspects were the kindness of the hostess who was very willing to please her guests, and the museum which we could visit after dinner. This hotel was the only one around so we can be a little indulgent as the logistics must not be a trivial thing.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a two day tour with IG Tours in April 2013. The hotel is clean, well maintained and peaceful. We reserved a 2 bed unit with our own bath. We also had dinner at the on-site restaurant. The food was delicious and the service was very good. I grew up on a farm and loved the peace and quiet at this hotel. Wonderful stay.

First off, this hotel is not in Hofn but about 30 minutes before it, which is great if youre going to do anything at the glacier lagoon or on the glaciers as it is closer. The rooms are very nice and comfortable, nicest we had while in Iceland. Wifi is good. TV is there but they only get 1 channel. They do know you really have no other options for dinner and offer a pretty expensive dinner, something like $45 US for a buffet. We passed as we had leftovers. Breakfast was good though.

It's located not too far from the Glacier Lagoon. We arrived really late in the evening, but the staff was happy to stay up for us so that we could check-in. The room was clean, staff was friendly and the breakfast was good. I would recommend this place for a quick stopover.

This hotel is a perfect choice when you want to stay overnight near the Glacier Lagoon. Very friendly and helpful staff, simple but generally clean rooms, decent breakfast. I had brought a bottle of champagne to celebrate my birthday with my husband, and the staff were nice enough to put it in their fridge for me and let us have it with dinner. The buffet they offered was very good and featured all local products (such as lamb and Arctic char). We really liked the casual atmosphere at Hali. Should we go back to this part of Iceland, we will stay there again.
