“One of the top meals of our lives!”
Reviewed September 21, 2012

Today is my husband's 80thBD! He chose this extraordinary place from reading TA and was everyone spot on!!! He emailed for a reservation a few months prior to our trip. The place is charming, great atmosphere, and staff. I think she was the owner/waitstaff... Lovely personality and warmth, we felt right at home. We ordered a Sancerre 2011, Franck Millet, excellent!!! Our meal was #10 on the menu, Langostine Fina, a 350 gram serving of split tails, salad of greens with tomato and basil. Served with two kinds of bread, I only ate the darker one and it was excellent! The food on the menu is from the local area and all fresh. The boat goes out and delivers the seafood each day fresh, doesn't get better than that offering. We each ate until our plates were empty. We were satisfied, and not stuffed. We shared two desserts, a creme brûlée, vanilla beans in view, crunchy when taped, and Skyr, a sweet type of yogurt, crumbled cookies under it and topped with a cherry sauce. Every bite disappeared, and savored!

“Extraordinary Langousine, Great Service”
Reviewed September 16, 2012

We were fortunate to decide select this restaurant for a very late lunch (after 15:00) in Hofn. We had not planned to drive past Jokulsarlon, and had therefore done no research on restaurants here. It has a rather Swiss butcher shop appearance, however, we still entered.

There were two tables of diners despite the late hour and while we were there four more tables were filled. Apparently they are busy at meal times, so a booking is suggested.

We took our server’s recommendation for the langoustine and also an arctic char. The fish was delicious but the langoustine was the best we have ever had. The (rather high) price was reasonable considering that there were 12 small half langoustine tails on the plate (the langoustine fresher and tastier than we had at other restaurants in Reykjavik). The langoustine were simply grilled: the perfect preparation for such excellent shellfish. The crème brulee was excellent, as was the cheese platter with local cheeses.

The service was appropriate – friendly and efficient and our experience outstanding. To our list of splendid things to say about Iceland which would include its natural wonders, we would add our experience at Humarhofnin.

Highly recommend.

“Best lobster dinner”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

There were not many choices in this small town but using TA we decided on Humarhofnin. We both love lobster and ordered the #10 (lobster tails & salad). Both were really great. The salad was very fresh! The lobster were unlike spiny or Maine lobster and more like Large Prawns. Very sweet.

We both agreed best dinner to date in Iceland. But be prepared the cost is more than 600k's each.

Happy eating!!

“Most lobster tails I've ever eaten!”
Reviewed August 30, 2012

As other reviewers attest, this meal will be one you'll always remember. If you order the lobster tail entree, you will be served at least 5 lobster tails, already cut in half. You simply peal the delicious meat from the shell. The lobster meat was extremely tender. The dipping sauce provided as something like "black magic" or other name -- it was a refreshing change from American style drawn butter.

The lobster bisque was also amazing.

Whatever the price, this meal was worth it. Everything was exceptional.

Do not get the whole lobster; it is a lot of work for less meat. Go for the tails.
