This house in Akureyri is beautifully decorated, pristine, well-maintained, spacious and comfortable. There was plenty of room for our extended family of 4 adults and 2 children and the kitchen was fully appointed and perfectly functional. The uppermost floor is particularly private and charming and has a wonderful soaking tub.
From this house, you can easily walk to the botanical garden just up the hill, down to the waterfront path in five minutes, or into the main part of town in ten minutes. A great icecream shop is just a block over.
This was our first trip to this part of Iceland and Akureyri is a terrific base for exploring. With our children ages 7 and 9 we hiked Mt. Solur just above town, explored the botanic gardens, the water front and the local swimming pool. A beautiful day's drive to the Lake Myrvatn area yielded some beautiful hikes. Another day we explored Husavik and the kids especially loved the whale museum. We stopped at Godafoss on the way there and hiked along the water. You can also arrange whale-watching and horse -riding in the area but we didn't do that this time.
The town itself is full of interesting shops and restaurants and, had we been unable to get out and about at all, the house itself would have been a cozy and comfortable place to hole up for days.
The host is very gracious and helpful and left us such a lot of goodies to welcome us. The arrangements were easy and the "instruction booklet" for the house had everything we needed. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
