Akureyri Backpackers is situated right in the heart of the town, just a stones throw from the shops, cafes, restaurants, cinemas and the fjord, you'll be perfectly placed to indulge in all of Akureyri's riches. The establishment is a rustic, authentic, no-fuss abode, offering a variety of rooms such as shared dormitories, private double rooms and even family rooms. All bathrooms are shared and very well maintained, and the establishment even has a sauna for guests to use if they wish to relax.

I would say that Backpacker was best pub in Akureyri. Traveller-friendly atmosphere and good local beers. Prices are high like always in Iceland. Located on main-walkingstreet. If you go to Akureyri you should visit here.

We payed extra to stay in a private room as my husband had caught a cold. It was a huge room, very nice, very clean, quiet, on the top floor. Bathroom was very nice, clean. Hostel was warm and friendly. Lots of people around. A nice, but somewhat expensive cafe to eat in downstairs with bar. Located in the center of everything. Would definitely recommend staying here.

This was my first ever experience at a hostel. We stayed for two days during a week long trip in Iceland. We booked two nights in the 6 room mixed dorm and had a great time. The hostel was kept very clean. We constantly saw staff cleaning and the bathrooms, kitchens and hallways were all clean.

I felt very safe inside the hostel as you need a pass to get into the showers, rooms and even the room floors.

The restaurant also had very nice food and you get a free drink if you eat there.

My only complaint is that the beds are so rickety and loud. Moving even a bit on your bed causes so much screeching it sometimes woke me up out of my sleep.

If you are in Akureyri and want a affordable hostel I recommend Akureyri backpackers!
