“Everything I needed”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

KEA is right in the center of Akureyri and close to everything. The room we got was large with large comfortable double bed. Desk, free wireless and all I needed. No sounds from other rooms. Bathroom large but a bit old-fashioned. Clean with quality towels. Breakfast buffet with good variety.

The Kea is convenient to everything in downtown Akureyri. It offers a sumptuous Icelandic breakfasts, free wireless internet, and small, reasonably pleasant rooms. Aside from extremely dirty carpets throughout, it's well maintained and not unattractive in that bland, utilitarian way one expects in Iceland. The desk staff is terrific, and its only a few yards to good restaurants, shops, and the very helpful tourist office.

Hotel Kea is a clean, modern, comfortable, full-service hotel in the heart of Akureyri, Iceland, the northern capitol. As in most European hotels, the rooms are rather small, but the amenities are complete with en-suite bathrooms (shower only/no tub), tv, storage and fluffy white comforters on the twin beds (put together to make double beds). Across the street is an art gallery, shopping, restaurants and pubs. Don't forget to taste the creamy ice cream and be sure to visit the beautiful botanic garden, only 5 minute walk from the hotel. Great place for skiing and northern lights viewing in winter. The hotel was included in our tour, so can't comment on the cost/value.

We stayed three nights in August 2012 in a standard room with a partial fjord room and were satisfied with our room and the hotel. The location is excellent--next to church and a five minute walk from restaurants and night life. By U.S. standards, our triangularish-shaped room was somewhat small and had minimal storage space as it lacked drawrs, except in nightstand. Also hotels in Iceland don't have a/c and are unexplicably warm given outside temperatures, and rooms facing the sun can get uncomfortably hot. Our room and common areas of the hotel were immaculately clean and decorated in contemporary Scandanavian style. Our bed was large and matress comfortable, important because of my husband's back injuries. The hotel had its own parking, but even when the spots were full, parking was readily available close by. Breakfast had a variety of cereals, fresh fruit, breads, pastries, and the Scandanavian staples of herring, cold cuts and cheeses as well as chafing dishes of eggs and sausage. We did not eat other meals there. Front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Would recommend property.

Room Tip: Room facing fjord get a lot of sun, and are therefore hot. Only high floors clear building next doo...

We had a weekend here during a 10 day stay in Iceland, and were lucky with the weather. Also perhaps the best room in the place; top floor facing the fjord--beautiful view! Extremely comfortable room and bathroom (no tub, but that appears to be pretty standard in Iceland). Perfect location right in the center of town, but if you face the fjord, you will also hear the rowdy crowd if you stay over a Saturday night. Great breakfast--better than Reykjavik! Loved the make your own cappucino machine. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the fjord, highest possible floor.

A great hotel for Iceland's standards. The rooms are inmaculately clean, it is right in the downtown area just a couple of steps away from the cathedral and within a short walk- althouhg uphill and steep- to Akureyri's excellent swimming pool, the staff was extremely friendly and helpfull and the buffet breakfast is arguably the best and more varied we had during our 12 day stay in Iceland.

The bathroom could be larger and the decoration is a bit dated but all in all an excellent hotel up north.

Stayed for a couple of nights. Hotel was quite basic, looked like it needed a bit of updating. As with most of Iceland, it was not inexpensive. Rooms were quite small, we had a superior with a view and balcony, but the rooms were quite warm. Breakfast was good. Akureyi is a small place, and this was nicely located at one end of the main street.
