In early April we went to Akureyri and had pre-booked a Saga Tour to the Lake Myvatn area. This was a small van tour and Siggi was our guide. Siggii was extremely informative about the area we were seeing and a nice friendly guide. The tour leaving Akureyri at around 8:00 was a lovely drive to first Dentifoss then on to the Lake Myvatn region. The volcanic produced geological formations around Lake Myvatn are just incredible, it's like being on another planet. Most of the lake was frozen over and there was snow at the falls, but it was still beautiful and worth doing. We had rain, snow and sunshine during this tour. The Lake Myvatn Nature baths were relaxing. Loved it. Definitely a must while you are up in Akureyri.

Cannot speak too highly about Saga Tours. We went on 2 full day trips to waterfalls and Lake myvatn nature baths so surreal swimming in hot water with falling snow and temperatures out of the water below freezing . Ziggi our guide on the trip to Dentifoss gave us an experience we will always remember, off road driving and fantastic views of the waterfall. On 2 northern light trips we were lucky to see the lights on both trips. The guides Harold Anton & Ziggi were so knowledgable and entertaining during the trips. On one trip I had an accident and Harold couldn't have been more helpful dropping us off at the hospital the returning later to check how I was. We were very impressed and came home with lots of memories.

Just back from a fantastic week in Akureyri which is a picturesque gem of town. We have nothing but praise for the quality of the tours and excellent service provided by the team at Saga travel. When we arrived in Iceland both of us went down with flu and no way could we go out on the northern lights trip planned for our first night. Kata from Saga could not have been more helpful telling us just to rearrange when we felt better. A few days later we joined Haraldur and some other visitors on a very successful northern lights search party! We also had a great day trip to lake Myvatn with Gunnar who was really knowledgeable and full of information about the sights. The timings were really good too - plenty of opportunity for photos and we never felt rushed like you can with some tour operators. We even had time to pat some beautiful and quiet Icelandic cows. Once again Saga went the extra mile with customer service, taking two of our party who weren't keen on a dip in the geothermal pool to a (fantastic) local bird museum while the other two enjoyed the hot springs. While our guys were fantastic, the Icelandic people are so friendly I'm sure the other tour guides in the area are probably great as well. However, the next time we return to Akureyri (and we definately will), we will be going straight to Saga travel to arrange our sightseeing.

Thank you Saga and particularly Gunnar for a wonderful tour and for suggesting the Bird Museum

Nothing but good things to say about Saga Travel Tours. We did the northern lights tour at the beginning of April, and they pick you up at the hotel around 10pm, and commence going in search of lights! Despite the precarious nature of knowing where they will show up, the guide had a forecast of sorts, and kept everyone's spirits up as we continued to look, checking common spots. Ultimately, we found the lights! It was a great show (although not the many colors I was hoping for), and we enjoyed it with the hot chocolate and doughnuts brought by the guide :) Made it back around 1am to the hotel, ready for sweet dreams of dancing lights. Although we were lucky and saw the lights, they did mention that if you don't see them the first night, you can try a second time the following evening (some people from the previous evening were on our trip, due to cloud coverage the previous night). A great tour, a great tour company! Thanks!

We were so lucky, being in Akureyri in april, the weather was wonderful in the beginning of the month. Saga travel decided to open up for their (amazing!!) ice cave adventure for just one day. And yes, we got the opportunity to come on this amazing trip! The day started with an off-road drive through volcano area and desert in a super jeep. Thanks to Oli, the very friendly and happy guide, we found the hole in the ground easily - and safe! Being under the ground exploring the wonders of the ice cave and the majestic stalagmites was a true fairy tale. The guide did everything he could to make the adventure even more stunning for us. I wont say any more but: You have to try it!!
Thank you for the best times in your beautiful country. The northern part of iceland is truly a beautiful winter-wonderland!

We also went on the waterfall-trip with Saga travel and had a wonderful time. Looking back - we were so pleased with the work of the company and had a joyful time with the guides that we will most definitely recommend using Saga travel to everybody visiting Akureyri and Myvatn.
