“Comfortable, clean hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

Ideally located in Akureyri not very far from the airport, easily accessed through the town and with plenty of parking. The hotel has a modern Scandinavian style and is spotlessly clean. Rooms are functional with plenty of storage space. We would definitely recommend you request a room on an upper floor and preferably not overlooking the car park - disappointed about the first room we were allocated on the ground floor, the efficient and helpful reception staff quickly reallocated us a much better room on an upper floor.

Breakfast is reasonable but beware the endless coach parties - they tend to go early and dominate the whole room and buffet.

Overall a nice place to stay and would recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor room not over looking car park!

This was the nicest place we stayed at during our trip to Iceland. You just simply feel at home there, the room and the entire facility looked really nice and the location was very good too.
Internet and breakfast was not included which is what many people mentioned but we liked the place so much that we did not mind this. Internet is free in the lobby and we had breakfast at a good bakery (close to the shopping mall, very much recommended).
We were sad to leave, especially that the next place where we stayed wasn't great at all and we decided to change our plans and come back to Akureyri but this hotel was fully booked.

One more note about the room design: some people might not like the glass semi-transparent sliding door between the bathroom and the room..

As most of iceland visitors I stayed there for one night only on a trip around the country. The room was huge with a very nice bed, everything clean and tidy. The shower was by far the best I had in Iceland, I really enjoyed it and so did my tired body. Breakfast was more than good, especially the waffles made by you. Walking distance to the town center, busy and confortable. I was sad to leave and was sad not to have more time to spend in this hotel and in the capital of the North, Akyreyri.

As part of our counter-clockwise one week Ring Road itinerary we spent two comfortable nights here.
This was by far the nicest room we had amongst our 6 hotels we stayed in.

That being said, I would love to give this hotel 5 stars but the fact that they charge for internet and do not include breakfast is very disappointing to me.
All of the other 5 hotels we stayed in included breakfast and had free wifi in the rooms. And the rates were all very comparable to Icelandair Hotels (most were much cheaper).
If these small “mom-and-pop” type hotels (most of them in the middle of nowhere) can offer these perks I feel that a big corporate hotel chain should do the same.
The only reason we chose this hotel was because they were offering a 15% discount off a 2 night stay and I figured since we’d have breakfast at every other place during our trip we could sacrifice for this stay.

There were at least 3 other Icelandair Hotels that we could’ve and probably would’ve stayed in if they offered those perks.
I wish the bigwigs at these big hotel chains would realize that they do lose business to the smaller guys by trying to be greedy.
I will say that they do offer free wifi in the lobby and it was a nice, comfortable space with lots of couches and chairs....a good space to relax and catch up on the internet if you desire (still not as good as in the room). However, when a large tour group came through and mingled it could get very crowded and noisy.

OK, back to the room: it was large, inviting and had lots of storage space. Also very quiet.
It had a wonderfully cozy bed (2 twins together as is common) and plush linens. There was also a separate sofa and desk area.
There were plenty of outlets, a TV and instant tea/coffee in room. No safe or fridge, though.

The shower was super powerful and separated completely from the toilet/sink area which was on the other side of the room...a bit of an unusual design but we had no problems with it.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

Overall, we did enjoy our stay and can recommend this particular hotel, but with food being so expensive in Iceland, we found it very helpful to keep within a budget by staying mostly at places where breakfast was included.

Sadly we only stayed here for one night on our trip around Iceland. We were upgraded to one of their two deluxe rooms which was huge with a massive comfy bed, and a great sofa and seating area to relax or watch tv. The shower was by far the best we had in Iceland, and breakfast was wonderful especially the waffles. We didn't eat dinner in the hotel but went along the coast a little to Noa which was the best meal we had also.

If you are thinking of spending some time in Akureyri rest assured you will be very comfortable here and it's only about 5/10 minutes walk into town also. I was sad to leave

Room Tip: Fingers crossed you will get an upgrade, but I'm sure all other rooms are great too

The rooms in this hotel are spacious, the biggest we had in Iceland with plenty of shelves to dump suitcases and stuff and keep it out of the way. Very nice bathroom with shower that doesn't get water all over the floor. We had a room with the largest king sized bed I've ever come across and huge windows looking out to the mountains and the sun (that barely sets in July). Good European style breakfast with lots of lunch meats, cheeses, bread, yogurt, cereals and the ability to make a waffle. My only complaint is the lack of in-room free Wifi as I noted in review of Icelandair Hotel in Reykjavik. The hotel is about a 3 block walk to the center of town and the harbor.

We stayed in July 2013, which is the high season for everywhere in Iceland so we could only get a room here for one night. The other two nights we had to stay at a guest house and a hotel (Edda), converted from a school dorm. The rooms are quite small, it is structured like a budget airport hotel like another reviewer said but very well maintained and clean.

The lobby is very welcoming, with a bit sitting area and a bar that doubles as reception area. I understand the disappointing reviews for this hotels because it does have some strange arrangement such as the wash basin, the toilet, the shower etc. But I have to say this is a great hotel to stay in the Akureyri region and we understand Iceland is still an expensive country, so we will be glad to come back and stay at this property next time.
