“The best hotel we stayed at in Iceland”

My friend and I stayed at: The Raddison Blu, Best Western, and Grand Central in Reykjavik.

Of all the hotels, this one was the BEST one. I was a bit reluctant to try it at first because it just didn't seem like it would be a good hotel.

It was fantastic. It was clean, had the most comfiest beds in Iceland - a rare find, was affordable (approximately $150/night), and it was the closest thing you could get to a 5 star.

I really enjoyed my stay here, made me wish I stayed at an Iceland Air Hotel in Reykjavik too.

Room Tip: If you go in the summer, just ask the staff to tape the curtains to the walls. It will prevent light...

I loved this hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The comman hotel lobby was warm and inviting and in the evenings was a hub of activity - social/meeting place. The rooms were clean and quiet and provided updated TV's and furniture/fixtures. The woollen throw on the bed was a welcomed addition. The buffet breakfast was basic and a little disappointing. The menu items were interesting and tasty.

Room Tip: If you want a good view of the city - ask for a higher floor. I stayed on the 1st level though and...

Like others, we stayed here as part of an Icelandair package, and were pleasantly surprised with the accommodations. The room layout is a bit odd and the shower difficult to contain in the space provided...but somehow this just added to the charm. The lobby is very warm and welcoming and the "welcome drink" was memorable after a cold afternoon of whale watching in October! The breakfast was good. I highly recommend taking advantage of the public swimming pool across the street - a nice opportunity to experience a vital part of Icelandic culture. Akureyri is a beautiful town.

The hotel is a bit further out from the town center than would be ideal, that said there's plenty of free parking. The staff were very helpful throughout our visit, so all in all a good stay. One annoyance was the restaurant was closed due to a pre booked party, but there were plenty of options in town.

The Icelandair Hotel Akureyri was a quaint hotel, well-kept and very modern/beautiful on the inside. I must note that we went during the Holiday season, which meant that there was a lot of Christmas decorations, making everything feel very festive and cozy. The hotel, while not looking like much on the outside, held rooms that were very nice, while small, set up very well. A built in sofa and shelving units helped make storing our packs/luggage very easy. The basement and reception areas were also very nice. The basement was where the buffet breakfast was served every morning, which I highly recommend you partake, as you can get your fill and the food was quite good. As for the main reception area it held many sofas and board games for when you had some free time. Also, the main reception area held a bar, which is where many of the guess would come and mingle.

As for the location, the hotel sits directly above the main part of town, which makes it a fast 5/10 min walk to get to stores and restaurants. Also, the main swimming pool for the town is located on the road going into town. The hotel gives you a free pass to the thermal swimming pool and I highly recommend going at the end of a long day to warm up and relax.

Overall, I would highly recommend staying at the Akureyri Hotel, due to the pleasant staff, its location and quaint atmosphere. Also, if you plan on going during the holiday time period, you get to enjoy a gift attached to your door knob most mornings (candy, fruit, and surprises).

We stayed here two nights the first week of April as part of an Icelandair package. Well worth the $30 a night for the upgrade as they put you on the top floor with great views of the mountains along with free internet. The hotel is at the top of a relatively steep hill which may be a little slick to walk in the winter time but we had no problems. We had a nice sized room on the 5th floor. Great lobby atmosphere with a self-serve wine bar. Free access to the town pool across the street which was wonderful. Breakfast buffet was good but there were no hot items. Would definitely stay here again.

As many other reviewers have noted, this was a 2-night stay as part of an Icelandair package. Despite the surprisingly low pricetag on the package, we were met with a quaint hotel, with fantastic service, nice rooms (with a view of the mountains, I think you can also get a view toward the town, downhill). We were provided a ride to the hotel (yes, mostly so they could tell us about their tours, but they did also give a brief tour of the town along the way), and a delicious welcome drink! No pool inside the hotel, but we did have a pass for the pool just across the street, which we didn't check out, but was always bustling with locals. No gym, as far as we saw. Excellent breakfast (not quite as good as Reykjavik's Natura, but nothing to complain about!). A quick walk down the hill takes you into town, where you can grab a drink and some puffin! All tours picked up from our hotel.
