The hotel is super cute and right across the street from a geothermal heated local pool. Another plus is the view, you walk outside and the mountains that are in the back are simply breathtaking. The hotel is a bit further out than some of the others in the area, but it's such a small city that it is literally just a walk down the hill to be in city central and the view makes it worth it. The staff were very pleasant and the rooms were super cute. I will warn that the rooms are small and not lots of privacy for the bathroom, so hopefully you are comfortable with who you are traveling with. The other thing, is there was no spa. One of the things we got spoiled with in the other hotels we stayed at in Iceland is they all had fabulous spas where you could relax in hot tubs and saunas - nice way to end the day. As I said, they do have a local pool across the street, but they closed awfully early. We went as a package deal and if I were to go back I would check on the prices of the hotels down the hill, but if the prices were comparable, I would choose the Icelandair again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that looks out to the mountains.

An amazing luxurious hotel. This hotel was featured on the travel film on the plane over, and for very good reason. Only down side was not staying there longer! It made all other stays in Iceland a bit dowdy in comparison.

What a lovely hotel! The upgrade (to celebrate our wedding anniversary) was worth it. The top upgrades had gone, but the upgrade to a top floor room, with views over the fjord was very well worth it. The walk in shower and separate bathroom behind a sliding glass door were behind the wall at the head of the bed - leaving plenty of space for luggage and fantastic views from large windows on 2 sides of the room. The view from the bed of the snow capped mountains was a work of art in itself. The reception/lounge area was very comfortable and cosy - lovely sofas - yet very clean and minimalist - with a well stocked bar and very congenial staff, who were very helpful.
The walk downhill to the restaurants (including the lovely Rub 23), bars, church and harbour was short (thought felt a LOT longer going back - to those of us from much flatter parts of the world!). However you walked off everything you consumed, so a win-win situation!

Room Tip: Top floor upgrade (especially North & East facing views) VERY good value

We, like many here, stayed at the Icelandair Hotel in Akureyri as part of an Icelandair package. I must say that Icelandair does a wonderful job with these packages. This hotel was exceptional for a few reasons. It is rather new, simple yet elegant in the Scandinavian style. They have some really exelent people working there. The staff is always ready to help, calling a cab, giving directions or sightseeing advice. I'd been told that people in Iceland were not warm and friendly - sooo not true. Lovely breakfast - lovely dinging room - great herring - Thank you, Caroline for your great hosting. Did we need anything - she was there for us. When we walked into our room I mentioned to my husband that the Icelandic Wool Blanket on the bed ws beautiful. He went downstairs and purchased on for me. It is now on our bed in Florida and always reminds us of an amazing time in Akureyri and the Icelandair Hotel there. We will be back.

We recently stayed in this hotel on a package to iceland. It was modern and clean. We chose an upgrade to a top floor room ( added charge) but was worth it as the view was spectacular across the mountains. The room was medium size with the shower room seperate to the toilet and positioned behind the bed with sliding glass doors to access.
We ate in the restaurant the first night but a very strange atmosphere with only a couple of other tables occupied. The choice on the menu was very limited but we can recomend the chocolate cake dessert !! Expensive for the standard of food. The break fast was very mediocre.
Access to the town was easy just a five-ten minute walk down a steep hill. We visited the swimming baths opposite which was worth while especially as free entry !! Lovely hot pools out side and immacuately clean. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: 503 had the best views ! e-mail them prior to your visit to reserve.

Dear Mrs Lymington
Thank you for your comments regarding your stay at our hotel. I am sorry to hear that you didn´t like our continental breakfast and that the restaurant did not fulfill your expectations. We offer a rather simple menu with the focus on local ingredients. I do hope that we can serve you better if you decide to visit northern Iceland again. Warmest regards Sigrún Jakobsdóttir
