Experience you won´t forget, riding on the icelandic pony through raw nature. One of the most experienced companies in Iceland in this catecory.

The people at Polar Hestar were very friendly. They advised us to take the three-hour tour: you will drive along the bay, with its stunning views. It is true, this route was absolutely unforgettable! A 3-hour tour can be done even without any experience.

My wife and I went to Polar Hestar with our kids who are 11 and 14. It's about 30 minutes north of Akureyri on the other side of the bay. All four of us had barely ever been on a horse before, and I was a little worried how it would go. But wow, what a positive experience. Icelandic horses are very easy to ride, and these horses were very obedient and easy going. Our guide was a young German woman, Elke, who was very warm and patient. Safety was her first concern: We all wore helmets and rode in a straight line. She gave us several simple tips and kept an eye on everyone from the front.

We just did a one-hour tour, not knowing how much we would like it. By the end we wished we had done the two-hour tour, as we would have managed to go farther. We left the farm and went along the road, then over a bridge near a pretty river rushing down from the mountains. Then we headed toward a mountain near the bay but had to turn around.

We had the chance to experiment with going a bit faster and basically kept things at just the level that was comfortable for us. At the end, they provide you with a generous supply of cookies along with coffee, tea, or juice. There are also some cool painted stones around the main building.

The price was quite reasonable compared to many activities in Iceland. For an hour, it was 3500 krona each for the adults and 300 each for the kids. So that was a little over USD$100 for the four of us.

I would highly recommend Polar Hestar.
