Description: Greifinn is without doubt one of the most popular restaurant in Akureyri . The menu is varied and the prices are moderate. Greifinn is ideal for individuals, groups and families that want to relax over food and drink. We make a point of running a family-friendly restaurant. A diverse menu is on offer with a wide choice of meat and fish courses as well as pasta and some of the most highly praised pizzas in Iceland.

Pretty standard American-style food (with the exception of a bizarre salt-cod pizza which must owe something to the local surroundings!). It's busy with plenty of families so don't expect a quiet or romantic evening here. Staff are very professional and, despite the bustling nature of the place, don't rush you.

Located just outside "downtown, this is not a gourmet place, but a very popular family restaurant patronized mainly by locals, and offering a wide variety of menu items, from pizza to pub fare to steaks/fish to traditional Icelandic dishes. I tried one of the latter (Fiskflokkur) and it was excellent - glad I picked this place.

This restaurant delivered what it said on the tin. Good wholesome hearty food and big portions. It is not fine dining but then it is not trying to be so. If you are out walking all day and are hungry and want a great place to eat without feeling like you have to dress up then this is a good choice. It was busy when I was there but I had good service unlike some of the other reviews. I would definitely go back here.

Unacceptable to be put on a list and then have other people seated before you, who did NOT have reservations. I think they do favor the locals, which is a shame. Everyone should be treated equally and just follow the first come, first serve basis. We were told maybe 15-20 minutes so we decided to wait (it looked really busy so we took that to mean they have great food and service). WRONG. We waited 50 minutes, were finally seated and then waited another 10 minutes just to get a server to come over to take our drink orders. She didn't want to take our food orders right then either, so we had to wait for that. All in, we spent 2.5 hrs at that restaurant to feed 4 adults. It was crazy loud and the food was terrible. Salted cod tasted like just pouring salt down your throat. Expensive. The best part was the salad, which was actual greens, not just iceberg. I would never recommend going.

After having read the reviews we decided to visit the Greifinn and wish we hadn't.

We tried to eat here on a Saturday night, as expected it was busy so the server added our name to the waiting list which should have taken about 20 minutes. After 4 other local couples arrived after us also without reservations and were seated before us, we thought things were a bit suspicious. After 25 minutes of waiting and the fact that a 5th couple were seated that had been there about 5 minutes, we decided to leave. It would appear that local custom is favoured above tourists, so we decided to give our money to another establishment just down the road (well done Domino's!).
