We had two overnight stays in Akureyri a few nights apart with little time to explore what other restaurants were available. This looked promising the first night and on our return we went back with four others who were equally satisfied. Very family friendly and seemed well patronised by locals as well as visitors. Good value by Iceland standards, lots of choice and very friendly and efficient service with all the staff speaking excellent English. A very "safe" choice and right in the heart of town.

Although this is not an ethnic restaurant, the rule guiding the choice of an ethnic restaurant applies here: go where that ethnic group goes to eat. Here, Bautinn is where locals go to eat. Other reviews have described the food as pub food. Healthier options are also available. We added the unlimited soup and salad, and were happy that we did. The food in Bautinn is good and reasonably priced, and the location of this place is as good as it gets in Akureyri: the corner of Hafnarstraeti and Kaupvangsstræti. The place probably seats about 40 to 50 people and was filled when we visited. Turnover seemed high and we barely waited to be seated. Service was pleasant and fast, and the atmosphere inside was definitely happy.

Thank goodness we found Bautinn because there was very little alternative in Akureyri which served simple but appetising fare. Two soups and salad followed by a main course plus dessert if wanted all for a reasonable price. Simple but enjoyable. A very friendly young team of servers.

Having 3 dinners when we are here. Good food, especially the soup!! The pasta is also amazingly good. Highly Recommended if you need fairly cheap restaurant food.

Visited here 2 nights we stayed in Akureyri. Good choice on the menu from Hamburgers to Pizza, fish to pasta. As said in other reviews add the soup and salad as it's unlimited and great value. Food is of a good standard akin to pub grub. So a safe choice If you're wandering round town looking where to eat. The burger joint across the street looked busy too and decent food.
