“Simply the best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 28, 2010

I have travelled all over the world, stayed at top level 5 stars hotels (for work travel), friendly guesthouses and everything in between. Last week I took my wife to Hotel Glymur, a magnificent hotel almost in our backyard (45 minutes away from Reykjavik) for a romantic getaway and man, I can truly say the Hotel Glymur is the best hotel I ever stayed at. Everything comes together at this small, family run hotel - fantastic nature and view, athmosphere, friendy and helpful staff, hot tubs, the northern lights (in winter time), magnificent food, etc, etc. Coming back home after one night at Glymur, it felt we had been away for a relaxing week. If you live in Iceland, this is the place to take your husband/wife for a mini break, if you live outside of Iceland, Hotel Glymur is the place to stay at in Iceland. Last place I recommended highly here at TripAdvisor was a cabin in Frutillar in Chile and Gaston's hostel in Puerto Madryn, in contrast to many, I only write about places I like and can recommend to others. At Hotel Glymur, just as in Frutillar and Puerto Madryn, the owners will treat you like family members (meaning family members that you love and like!), this is what is so valuable when travelling. Can't wait for the next visit to Glymur!

We stayed in Hotel Glymur for just one night but greatly enjoyed every minute of it.
This is a hotel with a pronounced personal touch, reflected in the friendly welcome and tour of the hotel we received when we arrived, the decoration, the library plus internet access plus game room (highly recommended for families) and many other details.

Our room was very quiet and serene, with a wonderful view. It was nice to have a little sitting room and the bed on a mezzanine.

The hot tubs are incased on three sides for wind protection and again in a very serene setting.

Although there was only one other couple staying at the same time as us, a beautiful breakfast buffet was laid out for us. We couldn't have wished for anything else. There was even home made bread.

In the evening, we accepted the chef's offer to serve a menu of his choice. Wonderful!

The hotel is well located for walking and I would happily go back for a deeply resourcing holiday, even on my own.

Having visited Iceland 11 times in as many years I thought I had seen a good cross section of the beautiful places to stay... but this hotel eclipsed them all. Simply stunning location, beautifully quirky boutiquey hotel, with amazing views from every room, wonderful staff - hats off to Hansina and her team for providing such an exceptionally warm welcome, stay and departure. Incredible food: If the chef offers to take you on an Icelandic journey at dinner (of the gastro-kind) then take him up on the offer - I can't use any more superlatives to describe... as soon as the sun starts to go down, grab a bottle of wine, your gown and head straight to the hot tubs. We will be returning as soon as possible... especially with the news of the cottages imminently opening... 10 stars.....

We went to Iceland off season to relax and explore South and West Iceland. We were looking for a quiet place outside of Reyjavik in a good location to take day trips to Sneffelsness and to drive The Golden Circle. Hotel Glymur was perfect. We had dinner by candlelight each night. The staff was very friendly, personable, and attentive to our desires. Our Chef, Helgi, treated us with wonderful food. Ragna, the hotel manager, helped us plan our day trips and was helpful prior to our arrival. The hotel has suprisingly comfortable beds, a jacuzzi bathtub, which we used along with the outside hot tubs which were a quick walk from our room overlooking the fjord. We loved this place and when we return to Icleand will stay here again.

Fantastic setting with wonderful views.
Magical experience especially in the hot tubs.
Felt relaxed and completely at home in tasteful and fascinating surroundings.
Food and service were excellent.
Would thoroughly recommend a visit to anyone, we only wish we had stayed longer.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Glymur in October of 2008, during the financial meltdown. We had a wonderful time at the hotel -- great food, comfortable and unique two story accomodations, great soaking hot tubs looking out over a beautiful scene, very nice and accomodating staff, etc. We had no complaints and would go back to the Hotel in a heartbeat if we're back in Iceland. The country north of the Hotel is particularly magical -- rent a car and explore -- and the hike up to Glymur Waterfall is amazing.
