“Great introduction to Iceland”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

Arrived via the longer Fjord route, which seemed a lot longer than the 15mins additional time than using the tunnel, however It was snowing and would not recommend this route if snow is settling on the road! Staff were very helpful giving advise on trips out and forecast for the Northern Lights with wake up service offered if they are spotted. Hot tub was a welcome relax after the drive and managed to co ordinate with 1 hour of sunshine! Rooms were lovely, split level with the bedroom upstairs and sitting area and bathroom downstairs. Torch may be useful if you need to 'go' in the night! The views over the Fjord magnificent from the room but even the rooms that had views over the mountain out the back were stunning. Bit of a shock when the hot water in the shower comes on as very strong smell of sulphur but you soon get used to that.
Food was beautiful, fish and lamb excellent and vegetarians also catered for. Breakfasts were superb with plenty of choice, the Gravlax was to die for with the dill sauce and all the bread was freshly made.
Would definitely stay here again and the staff welcoming and very helpful. After a very slight mix up over a dinner, and with no complaints from me, they even refunded the cost. Excellent service thank you Richard!

We stayed as a party of 3 in a two bedroom bungalow for two nights. Getting around Iceland is easy and the hotel was simple to find following the flags from the main road. The location provided decent stepping stone for exploring Snaefellsnes peninsular.

The staff were friendly and relaxed, though the hotel's dining area and menu feel formal, and dishes are expensive, even for Iceland! However, the food was well presented and very tasty. The bar was well stocked, but details on beer were light and I didn't press too hard for more information.

Our bungalow was comfortable and well equipped including a kitchen and private hot tub. The views from all of the bungalows were southerly to the sea Linley and hills to the west and east.

A call service was available for an alert to the presence of the Northern Lights. For viewing the aurora, darkness is desirable - it was not possible to control all of the lighting outside the bungalow and some lighting closer to the main building caused a minor distraction to the viewing.

I would readily stay here again, though I would continue to opt for the separate bungalow over the main building.

Room Tip: We stayed in the closest bungalow to the main building, refers to in English as 'Elegance'...

We stayed here for one night, in a two story room facing the mountain. The room was very spacious with a couch and chair on the main level, and the bed up on the upper level. We really missed having a fjord view, however. Our room was right over the main entrance and we could hear people when they came outside to smoke and talk. We were offered a wakeup call for the Northern Lights, but unfortunately the clouds never opened up on our night. The restaurant was very good. The bathroom was quite small and the hot water indeed had a strong sulphur odor, but the cold water was fine and the bathroom had a heated floor, a nice touch. I think with a fjord view I would increase the review to 4 stars.

My husband and I spent four nights here in a fjord facing room. The hotel is in a beautiful setting overlooking the fjord. All the staff were really accommodating and very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was very comfortable and warm and lovely to come back to at the end of the day. The hot tubs were great fun with such fantastic views.
On half board we had a set menu every night and all the dishes were fresh and beautifully cooked with delicious ingredients and the breakfast buffet was fantastic.
We were also lucky enough to see the Northern Lights three out of the four nights we were there and woken by the staff when they were out!
We would definitely visit this hotel again.

Room Tip: Check it's a fjord facing room.

The hotel setting is superb but our room seemed overpriced given that it faced the mountains rather than the Fjord [note to self double check the small print when booking !] We found having the bed on an upper tier of the room a bit of a nuisance and we noticed that we could hear the people next door clattering up and down their stairs however the room was pretty well appointed, The smell of sulphur from the showers was a little off putting [my partner said it was a bit like showering in a gone off egg sandwich],

A nice bar area with friendly service and comfortable leather sofas to sit o an take in the view got the evening off to a good start but the restaurant has a very limited menu and whilst food was fresh the starter was rendered tasteless by being served at fridge cold temperature and the lamb tasted more poached than roasted or fried and was served with a very bland blueberry sauce. This all cost about same as Hotel Ranga where we had stayed earlier in the week but in our view was not nearly as good.

Stayed for 3 nights at end of February to see the Northern Lights and the Golden Circle sights. We were lucky enough to see the northern lights on 2 nights with the staff letting us know as soon as they appeared. The Golden circle is not too far which we did on the first day and spent the second day driving around the peninsula, stopping off at various places. We loved the hotel, we stayed in the standard room overlooking the fjord which offered incredible views. I liked the separate sitting area and the room was very homely, it was great to come back to a lovely room each evening. Breakfast and dinner were great with a great selection and the staff were very attentive. I'd highly recommend to anyone visiting Iceland and wants to stay a little bit off the beaten track in breathtaking scenery.

My wife and I stayed here, in Feb 2014. Fantastic setting, particularly if you get a room facing the fjord.
The restaurant is nice although the menu can be a bit limiting if your are staying for a few nights.
Excellent location for visiting the Gullfoss waterfall and the national park.
Best to have a car if staying here, and don't be frightened of driving around the fjord as opposed to taking the tunnel, as its a magnificent drive.

Room Tip: Possibly try and get a Fjord facing room
