“Iceland Nov 2012”
Reviewed November 27, 2012

I travelled to Iceland with my Dad for a long weekend, hoping to see the Northern Lights. We chose Hotel Glymur because of its location out of town, and its great reputation. We stayed in the Villa Natura. The trip was perfect in every way. The Villa was well appointed, the views were amazing and the hot tub was great. We ate in the hotel every night and the food was very good. The staff were welcoming and very helpful. They even called us in our villa to let us know the Northern Lights had been sighted. We had a wonderful time, toured the local area, visited Reykjavik and most importantly we saw the Aurora two nights out of three. A perfect weekend that I would recommend to anyone.

Room Tip: The Villas are wonderful!

Some friends decided to get married in Iceland and picked the hotel Glymur for their nuptuals as there is a lovely little church just a short walk away. I won't go on about the wedding but the staff at the Glymur did a fantastic job in assisting with their plans and made it a day to remember.

We decided to splash out a bit on a cabin at the Glymur. My word, these are simply gorgeous. Spacious, warm, fantastic views - you could not ask for more. They really have the wow factor and are well worth spending the extra dosh. All are surrounded by decking and have a hot tub outside. This was my first experience of a hot tub - soaking in the warm water drinking champagne and looking out at the fantastic views. Life really does not get much better than this.

Food was also fantastic at the Glymur. Breakfasts were the help yourself kind but with a lot of variety and enough choice for me (vegetarian). Evening meals had been pre-arranged by the wedding party but it was clear some thought had gone into the vegetarian option which was appreciated.

Room Tip: Get the very front cabin, no one to look over you!

We booked one of the cabins at Hotel Glymur - the Couture. It was fantastic, with views of the fjord, which looked stunning in mornings and evenings and for the rest of the day. The outdoor geothermally heated bath is always 40 degree Celsius and it's a lovely way to see the view. The cooking facilities are also excellent, if you want to save some money - even if one has to drive to Akranes to purchase the food.

When you wake up at this cabin, you realise why it's worth every cent - I can't imagine many places better to stay. Another note - you can't book the cabins online, you have to ring the staff, who were very helpful all along the line.

We went there for a little anniversary getaway. We were met by very friendly staff who from the beginning made the whole stay feel like we were among friends. The rooms were really nice and the chefs prepared meals for us that were simply out of this world.
The scenery is just wonderful. We went out on a few walks in the beautiful nature in Hvalfjordur and spent our evenings looking up at the starry sky, which was made even more beautiful because of how far away we were from any towns. We will definitely be going again.

Had a two night stay at the hotel glymur. It was a warm and lovely place with a lot of trolls around! We used this accomodation as a base camp for our daytrips to the north-western part around snaeffels. The breakfast was very good as well. The only thing i expected different are bigger rooms.

After a long drive through much rain and dramatic scenery, we pulled up to a rather plain red-barn type building. Although not very imposing from the outside, the inside was beautifully decorated and the greeting very warm. Our 24 hour stay was enchanting, the dazzling scenery only upstaged by the wonderful service. The chef went out of his way to create a beautiful birthday cake presentation for my mother's birthday. We felt so welcomed.

Already planning a return trip with my husband!

Nice hotel in Iceland. It is about 1 hr outside of Reykyavic.

There is great hiking nearby! Drive to the tallest waterfall in Iceland (198 m) and hike up.
Beautiful views of the Fjord. Very good restaurant in the hotel, which is important since there is nothing else around.
