“Pretty nice restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 5, 2013

We had a nice dinner there on the way back to Reykjavik. It's a small town, so there aren't many choices. We followed the previous reviews and found this one. The food was quite good. We had lobster soup and pork ribs. Both of them were fine and the price was also good. I give 4/5 because it's not as excellent as other restaurants in Reykjavik :)

“Pretty decent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2013

Went to Gamla Kaupfélagið a saturday evening. Wasn't full (luckily since there were 10 of us and we hadn't reserved a space). Ordered from a full menu, thought maybe the menu had a bit too many items to be good but it turned out fine. I had the Louisiana chicken strips (misspelled Luisiana in the menu) and they were excellent. Some of the others had a satay chicken salad and burgers, also good. Service friendly and quick, and prices quite OK. I'd happily eat there again.

“Wide choice of food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013 via mobile

We came here as it was the nearest town to our hotel and we'd seen some positive views online. We came on a Monday evening so the restaurant was quite quiet but that didn't worry us particularly. There was quite a wide selection on the menu and all fairly reasonably priced (we had two mains, 2 puddings, 1 beer and a white wine for around 7500 isk). Good sized portions and the puddings were particularly nice! I had a very tasty carrot cake and my boyfriend had apple pie. Would definitely come here again.

“A gem of a find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 11, 2013

Came across this place on trip advisor while looking for a bite to eat & wow... am I grateful! When we arrived there were a few locals enjoying a quiet meal & drink, but the place was mostly empty (it is out of season currently). Cosy, pleasing atmosphere with easy listening music playing at appropriate level. The staff are friendly, the service efficient & the food.... Plentiful & delicious! We ordered the burger (with lobster) & the lobster pasta. Glad we didn't order starter & unfortunately no room for desert (selection looks lovely!) as the main course was more than sufficient. The cost is extremely reasonable (only around 4,000ISK for the 2 meals, which is very reasonable in these parts!). Also, I am currently using their free, no password required, wifi to post this! Highly recommend a visit, wish we'd found this place 2 nights ago!!

“Eating at Gamla Kaupfélagið”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2012

We spent 10 days in a cottage outside Akranes and regularly ate at this little restaurant. We became particularly fond of one server, but missed saying good-by to him on our last. He did not think he was very photogenic so we wanted to take a foto with him! Food was excellent, atmosphere not noisy, and free Wi-Fi so I could stay connected and search out things to do in Ísland.
