My brother-in-law David and his wife live in Cyprus on the south side and when we visited them this year they took us over to the north side to Club Ilgaz for a few days. The Club is a short way up a mountain road off the main road not far from Kyrenia. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and were shown to our bungalow by David who has been there a few times before. The bungalow was quite large and modern. A modern bathroom was at one end and beside it a dressing area with lots of wardrobe space and a full length mirror. (you may need to take clothers hangers as there weren't many for use). There was lots of hot water and lovely clean, white towels. A large queen-sized bed and some modern bedroom furniture dominated the room. Still loads of space to move around. At the other end was two comfortable chairs, a coffee table, a fridge with tea and coffee etc and doors to a small balcony with table and chairs that looked out onto the hills and in the distance the sea could be seen sparkling in the sunlight. That evening there was a musical night with a buffet. Lots of local people turned up to see 'Meatloaf' and 'Tina Turner' do their stuff and very good they were too. The buffet was excellent with lots of different dishes. The next morning breakfast was brought to our door about 9am which consisted of fresh hard boiled eggs, fresh hot rolls, fruit and cheese, butter salt and pepper; all in a picnic basket and we sat and ate it on our little balcony. It was so quiet all we could hear was the wind blowing in the trees. Beautiful ! There is also a lovely big pool with plenty of beds. A bar is available at the pool. All drinks are available and an honesty pad is there so that you can let them know what you have had to be added to your bill. The Club is run by an English couple who keep chickens and goats. They also have a couple of dogs and several cats that like to visit people in the bungalows and they are not allowed into the bungalows unless invited so the dogs will sit at the door unless you tell them otherwise. The Club is owned by an old Englishman who bought up all the surrounding buildings so that no one could live in them, hence the peace and quiet of the surrounding area. My only concern for the place is that the two bungalows that we were in, looking out onto the valley below, is that cracks are starting to show in the walls and floor. Efforts are being made to remedy the problem and I sincerely hope they find a solution as it really is a lovely place as we would love to go back again. There is lots to see and do in the area. We had a terrific Indian meal at a restaurant in town one evening called The Garden. There are lots of restaurants on the main road to suit all tastes.
