“So Quiet!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

My brother-in-law David and his wife live in Cyprus on the south side and when we visited them this year they took us over to the north side to Club Ilgaz for a few days. The Club is a short way up a mountain road off the main road not far from Kyrenia. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and were shown to our bungalow by David who has been there a few times before. The bungalow was quite large and modern. A modern bathroom was at one end and beside it a dressing area with lots of wardrobe space and a full length mirror. (you may need to take clothers hangers as there weren't many for use). There was lots of hot water and lovely clean, white towels. A large queen-sized bed and some modern bedroom furniture dominated the room. Still loads of space to move around. At the other end was two comfortable chairs, a coffee table, a fridge with tea and coffee etc and doors to a small balcony with table and chairs that looked out onto the hills and in the distance the sea could be seen sparkling in the sunlight. That evening there was a musical night with a buffet. Lots of local people turned up to see 'Meatloaf' and 'Tina Turner' do their stuff and very good they were too. The buffet was excellent with lots of different dishes. The next morning breakfast was brought to our door about 9am which consisted of fresh hard boiled eggs, fresh hot rolls, fruit and cheese, butter salt and pepper; all in a picnic basket and we sat and ate it on our little balcony. It was so quiet all we could hear was the wind blowing in the trees. Beautiful ! There is also a lovely big pool with plenty of beds. A bar is available at the pool. All drinks are available and an honesty pad is there so that you can let them know what you have had to be added to your bill. The Club is run by an English couple who keep chickens and goats. They also have a couple of dogs and several cats that like to visit people in the bungalows and they are not allowed into the bungalows unless invited so the dogs will sit at the door unless you tell them otherwise. The Club is owned by an old Englishman who bought up all the surrounding buildings so that no one could live in them, hence the peace and quiet of the surrounding area. My only concern for the place is that the two bungalows that we were in, looking out onto the valley below, is that cracks are starting to show in the walls and floor. Efforts are being made to remedy the problem and I sincerely hope they find a solution as it really is a lovely place as we would love to go back again. There is lots to see and do in the area. We had a terrific Indian meal at a restaurant in town one evening called The Garden. There are lots of restaurants on the main road to suit all tastes.

We spent 14 days at Club Ilgaz and had a really mavellous time. The bungalows were spacious and well equipped, all mod cons as shown on the web site. The gardens are beautiful, the pool was mostly ours for the entire stay, it also has an honesty bar where you write in the book what drinks you have taken and pay later. Wi Fi is available in public areas but not in bumgalows. The service was first rate, the food was amazing we worked our way through Sue and Sean's entire menu. A really relaxing place with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and hosts who are extremely helpful. Sue & Sean operate "a no children under 12 years" rule which means that it is a really peaceful break for adults only.

Room Tip: All of the bungalows are of an excellent standard so all are equally comfortable

We stayed at Club Ilgaz for 10 days in September. The location of this retreat is amazing. You are situated near the top of a mountain (only 15 minutes from main town) with amazing sea views whilst being surrounded by greenery. We also ate in the restaurant most lunch times and nights experimenting with the "sexed up" menu the food was consistently cooked to perfection and served with warm and friendly service. Although the steak with Port and Stilton sauce was devine I strongly recommend the ORGASMIC CHICKEN.

Can wait until we stay again next year.

We visited Club Ilgaz about 7 weeks ago for Sunday Lunch. The place is absolutely stunning and very relaxing. The food was beautiful and served hot (which seems a problem in the North). We went for an evening meal two nights ago, and the food and service was just as good. A little bit more expensive than most places but we feel you get what you pay for. Would highly recommend this place for Sunday Lunch or Evening Meal. Be sure to book though as they do get very busy. Will definately visit again soon.

I have been visiting North Cyprus since 1997 - the quality of the food and variety of cuisine is a very large part of what keeps me coming back. However, there has always been an Achilles heel with regard to it's food - the traditional Sunday Roast. Sure, loads of places offer it, but I have always been disappointed with the meat that is served as part of this "Sunday Roast" package. Those of you who have had the misfortune to have experienced "Iceland" sliced frozen pork/beef/lamb will know what I mean. It's edible but nothing like real roast meat.
On the recommendation of a resident of North Cyprus we tried Club Ilgaz. We were told booking was essential and that proved to be the case. We were unable to get a table until 4 pm despite booking 5 days ahead.
The choice was slow roasted rib of beef, roast pork with crackling and roast chicken. As soon as I saw rib of beef my decision was made - especially when one of the owners (Sue) told me it was cooked rare. Shaun is the other owner and also the Chef. The beef was stunning, beautifully cooked for me (although others in my party thought it a little too rare for their taste) It was really melt in the mouth. The roast pork came with a large bowl of the most perfect crackling.
It was a stunning meal and at only 27TL for two courses, represented fantastic value for money. Yes - that is about 10 TL more than the run of the mill Sunday Roast restaurant packages (that's less than £4 extra) it is so worth it.
There is a very large pool that customers are welcome to use - you can spend the day there. Also air conditoned modern and comfortable en-suite rooms if you want to relax for the day and not worry about what you can drink - they are only £50 per room a night and that includes continental breakfast for two.
It is located in the Lapta area - follow the coast road - when you see the pork shop on the coast side of the road - continue for a few hundred metres and take the next on the left (it is signposted "Club Ilgaz")
In conclusion Club Ilgaz has solved the problem of North Cyprus' culinary Achilles heel - it was amongst the best roast dinners I have had anywhere.

Shaun and Sue used to run The Moon Over the Water in Bogaz, so if you have previous experience of that, you know already that the food will be exceptional and the service will be efficient in a relaxed atmosphere (that most difficult of combinations). They have got this place completely sorted, the gardens are beautiful with lovely bungalows which have large comfy beds, lovely furnishings and capacious shower rooms. You are spoilt for places to sit and chill out whether its in the sun by the pool or in the shade of one of their ancient olive trees. Wherever you sit you will be able to take in the spectacular view of the mountains behind or the valley below all the way down to the sea. Add to this the fact that your breakfast will be brought to your room in a basket at the time of your choosing so that you can have a relaxed start to the day enjoying home made bread and a coddled egg while sitting in your room or out on your private balcony and I defy you to come away from here anything but blissed out.
On top of all this they have the audacity to charge very reasonable prices! You would probably pay half as much again to get anything approaching this on the rest of the island.
Do yourself a favour and grab a little bit of bliss by staying here.
