Cumulus Resort Tropiclandia
Ranked #5 of 6 Hotels in Vaasa
Reviewed July 5, 2013

I don't understand where the 4 star rating is coming from. The hotel is really tired and old, the rooms are tiny and there was a smell in the room. The walls are thin like paper.

The restaurant was open only in the evening and the expensive buffet was nothing special. The same goes to breakfast.

A plus is the nice location at sea and the access directly from hotel to the spa.

I think that the most finns already know what to expect when booking a room at this hotel. If I will go again to the spa Tropiclandia, I will definitely take a room from a real 4 star hotel in the city centre of Vaasa.

However, the spa is a great place for families with smaller children and that is the reason to travel to vaasa at all.

Stayed here in summer 2000 and last week once again. I called the hotel in the afternoon when driving to Vaasa. I asked the receptionist if there would be possibility for cross country skiing near the hotel. She didnt know, but she took my number and called me back in 20 minutes. I made a reservation and enjoyed skiing in sunny athmosphere. The rooms and restaurants are a bit outdated but I did like the service very much.

I was on summer vacation with my family. We travelled thru lapland during a week and when driving back we visited Tropiclandia.
As soon as we got to hotel we went to spa. Kids loved the spa.
After spa we wanted to have a nice dinner instead of hamburger or pizza and selected hotel's own restaurant.
Service in a restaurant was nice, fast and polite.
Also food in the restaurant was good and selections nice.
I can recommend this place to all families.

We spent one night in Tropiclandia to visit our friends in Vaasa. The target was to stay for 2-3 nights but we decided to move to city center after one night and a disappointed evening in the restaurant.
The service was Very slow and the attitude was like in most of the "chain" restaurants" in FInland... The difference in Tropiclandia was that it was weekend and the restaurant was full so the staff was not interested in to anything. We were with children so the evening after 20.00 o'clock started to be noisy for us and an hour after there were already a lot or drunken people. Can not recommend ths hotel restaurant to families. Maybe it would have different with a boys night out....

Stayed at Rantasipi Tropiclandia in October 2011. Have been there 5 yrs ago, and was disapointed because they haven't done anything to either the hotelrooms or the spa during this period. In fact they have just left it to degrade. Both rooms and spa are in desperate need to be refurbished. The room we got with seaview was not worth the 150 euro we paid for it. It was small and smelled awful in the bathroom. The bathroom was also very much run down... mould, broken tap over sink and shower jet was had not been cleaned for ages.

The pullout bed (from a armchair) for our kid was so terrible he could not sleep because it was so uncomfortabel, even dispite he was only 1,45 m tall. Despite it is a spa-hotel the bathtowels are the smallest we've ever had in any hotel. Breakfast was ok, nothing above ok. In the spa the temp of the large pool was not as warm as it usually is (have visited it apr. once or twice a year, without staying over at the hotel). The signs showing the temp was all 3 out of order. The front desk told us you couldn't anymore pay at the poolbar by charging your room-number, because the spa is now owned by a different company (not by the hotel anymore).

Now you wonder if there was anyting positive... Yes, there were also positive things. The front desk lady was really professional, kind, friendly, cheerful. She was the main reason why we paid without complaining by check out. It was not her fault the hotel is beeing not kept properly up to date. The billiards table by the lifts was nice! :) The view from the hotelroom was stunning, a beautiful seaview! There was lots of parking available in front of entrance. The positive is that the hotel is now doing some new plumbings in some rooms (closest to the spa). And it is to hope they also do some upgrading of rooms with new furniture and amenities. If they want customers to pay 150+ for a night stay...

(Ps. the spa had now shortened the opening hours, both in the evening and in the morning by 30 min. Feels as not much, but that is one hour less to spend in the spa, which is often the main reason to spend a holiday at this hotel... so it do matter!) There are better hotels in Vaasa (Radisson Blu and Vaakuna), and for less money you can stay in theese and get a better room/breakfast and either buy the holiday as a package with hotel & spa-visit or pay separately these two.

This is a good option if you do not mind staying a 20 minute walk from the city center -instead you will be rewarded with a nice location directly by the sea.
Be sure to ask for a room with sea view -which is marvellous -the other option is view of a dull parking lot in front of the hotel.
Rooms are modern, spacious, clean and very quiet. Hotel guests havce free access to the saunas and spa, which includes an outdoor swimming area. Breakfast is plentiful, but not five star.
I attended a conference at the hotel -conference assistance was helpful, and conference facilities were tidy and functional. Confernece room K102 has a beautiful open sea view.
The clientele is mixed -in summertime there will be many families with children, due to the swimming faciliteis and the adjoining amusement park.

I was in the hotel in July 2010. It wasn´t a good hotel. It was so dirty. The breakfast was terrible. Actually, I didn´t eat much at all, cause the food was so bad.
