“Absolutely beautiful and a trip through time.”
Reviewed August 21, 2012 via mobile

The cathedral is free to enter and the museum very inexpensive. The main cathedral is awe inspiring in it's proportions, more clearly experienced because of the Lutheran austerity. The side chapels are beautiful and the museum offers artifacts from he middle ages on. Loved it!

“Wow”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

We visited and a service was coming to a close but they allowed us to quietly come inside. It was very sparse compared to many other cathedral's around the world BUT I really felt that it added to atmosphere, it was typically finnish.

“A pleasant church if you happen to be in Turku”
Reviewed August 8, 2012

Physically, the cathedral dominates the city landscape and thus easy to locate from most vantage points in Turku (the old capital of Finland). In any case, it is situated in the heart of Turku next to the Old Great Square, by the river Aura. Considered to be the most important religious building of Finland, Turku Cathedral (Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland) is also as one of the most important national shrines. Thus, the sound of its bells chiming at noon is broadcast on national radio. It is the central church of the Archdiocese of Turku, the seat of the Archbishop of Finland and the center of the national annual Christmas celebrations.

The cathedral was originally built out of wood in the late 13th century, and was expanded in the 14th and 15th centuries, mainly using stone as the construction material. The cathedral was badly damaged during the Great Fire of Turku in 1827, and was rebuilt as it is seen today. The inside is less austere than most usual Lutheran churches because of its mixed history and does contain some very nice stained- glass panels, chapels and architectural features, and should appeal to visitors of that pursuit. Also, the bank of the river Aura in front is a pleasant spot for rest or a picnic.

“Nice and small.”
Reviewed July 30, 2012

This must be the smallest cathedral I've ever been to! But it's still worth a visit! Central location and easy to find.
