This is a large, well located museum. It is a short distance from Turku Castle. You can get here via public bus from the market square (E2.50 each way). There is also ample free parking. There are lots of beautiful wooden boats, many models of ships, and more outboard motors than you will ever want to see. We paid the fee to visit the ships moored on the river, but really had had enough before we got to them.

If you are or are with someone who really likes maritime museums, you can plan on a long visit. The restaurant is not as expensive as it may sound. The 18 Euro buffet includes a table with a variety of cold seafood. If you are willing to skip that and have only the warm buffet and salad table, it will cost less than 10 Euros. The food was good and helped sustain us through the rest of our visit.

This museum contains an amazing collection of ships and maritime history. The old sailing ships were fascinating and our guide very interesting with explanations covering all our questions. You could spend a whole day here if ships are your passion.

Free if you have a Turku Tourist Pass. Loads to see and read (not much in English) with well presented pictures and imagery.
Staff were exceptionally helpful. Cafe was really well stocked for snacks or meal (buffet lunch for €25).

Being interested in all kinds of maritime things I made a trip to Turku to Forum Marinum and thought that three hours would be ample time. The museum is very large indeed with two separate buildings two tall sailing ships, naval ships, SAR-ships and other things both inside and outside.

Lots of interesting information, videos, some interactive things. For me the three hours was not enough.

My husband dragged me to this museum, I was bored in advance, but the impressions went over any expectations. Lively animated expositions. Lots of interesting information on past and present. Big ships life size, life boats, radio recordings, videos. From the moment you enter the big metal doors which shut behind you, you are involved in a sea adventure. Informative, fun, highly advisible. S-card discounts for entrance tickets.
