Being interested in all kinds of maritime things I made a trip to Turku to Forum Marinum and thought that three hours would be ample time. The museum is very large indeed with two separate buildings two tall sailing ships, naval ships, SAR-ships and other things both inside and outside.

Lots of interesting information, videos, some interactive things. For me the three hours was not enough.

Thank Matti V

My husband dragged me to this museum, I was bored in advance, but the impressions went over any expectations. Lively animated expositions. Lots of interesting information on past and present. Big ships life size, life boats, radio recordings, videos. From the moment you enter the big metal doors which shut behind you, you are involved in a sea adventure. Informative, fun, highly advisible. S-card discounts for entrance tickets.

This isn't your typical maritime museum. It goes far, far beyond ship models. The first thing we saw was their collection of a few hundred outboard engines. Then they offered displays about safety, customs brokers and tariffs, rescues, herring fishing, the Finnish coast guard, boat building, huge engines, and on and on. We easily spent a few hours. Our only disappointment was we wish more explanations were also in English.

Don't get me wrong, there is nothing really wrong with this place - but nothing special either. It's just old fashioned museum with kind of dull displays, no great experiences or interactivity to be expected here.

We spent late afternoon here. The museum has display of ship navigation technology. You could also visit the ships which also have exhibitions.
