Sorry, but this is overpriced, not much happening, empty rooms, no / few handicrafts being made. More like a ghost town than handicraft museum.

I have to admit the houses and handicraft artifacts look really beautiful and convincing, it was like time-travelling just by entering the museum. Lots of different professions, and impressively all the buildings are original, which makes it astonishing.

On the other hand, we visited the museum in May, and most of the handicrafts were closed. We didn't find it fair to pay the full entrance and to find half of the houses closed, we could just stare at them from outside through the windows. Also some of the staff (very friendly all of them) didn't speak English, which didn't make it better.

I see the museum has a lot of potential, and probably it's really worth the visit in summer, but out of that don't expect to see it completely.

PS: Do not miss the cakes in the cafe/restaurant outside, really worth every euro!

This is the Turku Art Museum in picture!!! The Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum, on the top of the hill next to the Observatorium, is like turning back the clock some 150 years. Quaint old houses from an era gone by. Each house is dedicated to one trade. In the Summer time very often volunteers work in the old houses showing the modern man how things were done. The museum has been awarded the Pomme d'Or-prize for its outstanding work. A wonderful place less than 15min walk from downtown Turku.

If you're interested in history, antropology, architecture, the Finnish culture or just about anything, this is a nice place to go to. I see it as the main attraction of Turku. The knowledgeable guides explain old traditions and way of living. This open-air museum has several houses that can be visited, all of which survived the great fire of Turku. A unique place, visit it if you can!
