You´ll find this museum& art gallery close to the city center and also at the river banks of the fabulous Aura river. There is a nice restaurant at the museum, a painting colection and a good,
interesting view to the history of Turku. Turku was the first capital of Finland and that´s the reason, there are so interesting and unique items to see at the museum.

We had a lovely brunch at the museum; the price was pretty reasonable and the quality of food good.
I also loved the fact the food was diverse. Lots of good savoury choices and sweet ones!

Best brunch in town on Saturdays! The painting collection is below average or average at best. Downstairs has piece of Turku history which is best directed to kids at age 5-10.

Aboa Vetus is one of my absolute favourite museums, and I have visited it several times. It offers such an interesting view into the historical layers of Turku, into the lives of people who lived there hundreds of years ago. You can actually walk in the underground ruins that have been dug up underneath the building. On top of that, there are various activities to make history alive for visitors. They have given a lot of thought to children, who can play with a special doll's house and press coins, to mention a few of the activities available to them. For older visitors, there is ample information about the exhibits. The dim lighting in the underground spaces just pronounce the feeling of entering another world. There are lots of stairs so watch your step!
In addition to the archeological museum, there is also a modern art museum which is worth checking out.
The entrance to the museum complex is quite impressive as there is an old cobblestone street on the floor, and it is very spacious. The entrance hall also houses a very nice cafeteria where you can always find something tasty to eat. There's a nice garden outside where you can sit and enjoy the summer. There's even an interesting museum shop with all kinds of finds.

Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova have two seperate exhibitions, contemporary art and historical ruins. For us, Aboa Ventus was more interesting. We were all grown-ups though I guess it would have been interesting to visit this exhibition with children as well as ther were quite many things for kids to do. Information was given in different languages, we were able to see ruins of medieval Turku. Quite interestin. Ars Nova part did not excite us that much. There was a possibility to eat also, but I cannot comment on the food as we did not.
