A must in Turku! Centuries of history with authentic graffiti by royals in one room. A splendid venue for family celebrations and royal visits. Authentic medieval cathilic chapel and a bit more modern, but beautiful Lutheran chapel for weddings and celebrations like. Lots of ancient fennoscandian artefacts.

“Well designed Castle & Museum”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

For a cheap ticket one gets to jump back a few centuries at the peak of the castle's splendor. The whole building has been heavily renovated in order to give an idea of what it used to be like. Unfortunately it seems it is also used for a conference center or something like that and some rooms are clearly "modern". However there is plenty of information to satisfy one's curiosity and the tour seems endless (a couple of hours altogether).

Definitely worth a visit, also because it is at the end of a nice path from the city center.

“A must do”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

It is located in a beautiful park and really close to the harbour, river and maritime museum.

It is free to walk around the courtyard and there is a nice cafe inside.

The fee to tour the inside is minimal and there is a lot to see. I spent 3+ hrs just walking around looking at the different exhibits.

The exhibits are not strictly only about the castle, they also have some modern art and historical items such as toys and folk tales.

I love the place!
The normal tickets are 9e; discount for student (which I had) 5e/student; I think children under 16 are not charged, not so sure now. You'll get a sticker to attach on your clothes and a tiny guide brochure when you buy the ticket.
It took me 3 hours to complete the tour around the castle. Yes, that's how big it is! And plus, I took so many photos and videos, more than enough so it might take you only 2 hours if you go through everything fast.
There are small museums and displays along the tour. It would be the best if you are accompanied by someone who has sound knowledge about the castle because it gets boring at some point just to wandering and looking at things. Of course, there are notes in the museums but not for everything.
When I got to the banquet rooms, there were people dressing in the costumes and they were very friendly to talk to. I asked to have a picture taken with them and they were really happy to do it. I had a small chat with them and they sure have some knowledge about the castle and the history of it. There was even a man playing instruments and singing in the banquet room, which was so so nice.
They say castles are often haunted and I do believe that if it is what they tempted to do with this one, they have succeeded. Even though the castle has been renovated several times and some parts look rather modern already, there are corners where I found it so creepy and scary. But then, it was also interesting that I could feel that way.
All and all, a super nice place and a must to visit when you are in Turku. It is absolutely possible to walk here from the city center (only about 3,5 km). Remember to stop by Forum Marina (museum of marine) because it is on the same road with the castle, only 10 minutes to the castle. I went there in the winter and I was even able to walk when it was snowing. If you go there in summer, it would be even easier and much much more beautiful.

“Really Giant Castle”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

The castle was pretty neat, and spanned different eras of architecture, which we enjoyed. There was a lot to see, and we were tired, so it did seem to drag on and on. Go with a better attitude and you'll like it more than we did.
