Tuulensuu's staff is highly knowledgeable about drinks and pairing the right gastro pub style food with the right beverage. The drinks menu contains a world of beers, whiskeys, rums, real French ciders, calvadoses, cognacs, absinthes, meads, grappas and wines - the list goes on. The food is well prepared, made to order so can take a little while and has French and Belgian influences. Vegetarian options. The place is popular and often gets crowded, situated on the beautiful Hämeenpuisto esplanade (trivia: the longest in Finland).

Firstly, people don;t come here for the food - despite it being called a gastropub.
The food is OK, perfectly acceptable, but nothing special.
The atmosphere is good when busy, it can get very busy and very crowded. Tables are close together and spacce is at a premium. Don't expect any privacy.

But ..... the reason everyone comes here is for the beer. They have fridges and fridges of imprted beers. Over 400 beers available - nearly anything you want. Then on top of that they have at least a dozen draught beers available, which change constantly. They have guest beers on draught every month which are quite surprising.

Staff and service is brilliant. Good English skills and a very good sense of humour.

Prices for imported beers can be a little high, but what do you expect?

This is a tiny gem in Tampere! Gastropub Tuulensuu really wowed me!

Tiny, tiny place which was full on Tuesday night. Wow, what an experience! No table was empty for more than few seconds.

I am not a "beer-person" so I was there just for atmosphere and food. I was hungry and ordered Choucroute which is meat sausages with sauer kraut and potatoes. I loved it!

Our waitress was excellent. I have had some bad service in Tampere before but it was all gone when this tall blond waitress with black classes waited us. You rock girl!

Go and have an gastro experience!

Simply a brilliant place to eat.

We were put on to Tuulensuu by the trusty Lonely Planet guide to Finland, that rated it the top choice in Tampere - and got it dead right.

Busy, lively pub with a lot of seating. The staff were fluent in English, very efficient and very friendly. Food was quick, hot and delicious. Meatballs and mash potato with real beer.

If you're looking for somewhere informal and friendly, with honest, decent food, this is it.

Take a corner place, put large glass panels in the place of three of its four walls, decorate it like a pub with nice theatre spot lights on the ceiling, let some great music to play distinctively and you have a lively, cozy and youthful place where you can have a good meal or drink a beer (or both).
The whole space may be a little confined and the tables are close to each other but this is a part of the character of this cute little gastropub.
The food was excellent: my wife had the lamb meatballs with beer sauce and creamy goat cheese potatoes which was terrific (maybe a liitle less nutmeg please...). I took a typical Choucroute (sausages, potatoes & sauerkraut Alsacian style) which would make real Alsacians to reconsider their cooking. Good sausages, sauerkraut, nice strong mustard and wonderfully roasted potatoes was the simple secret of success. The portions were hearty.
The beer list is enormous and a liitle help would be acceptable (which we hadn't). The famous Belgian beers (Trappist beers) are particularly honoured here.
If you like to have a good meal, a good cold beer and listen to good music, then this is what you are looking for.
