This resort comprises timeshare apartments and an adjacent hotel. I am reviewing the timeshare. This is a high-end apartment complex and our apartment had floor to ceiling windows overlooking the pretty marina. The apartment itself was of a 5-star standard, wooden floors, modern and spacious on two levels. The lower level open plan area comprised a kitchen with range cooker/oven, large fridge freezer, all very modern, very good quality utensils, cutlery etc., a shower room with WC and a double bedroom, large flat-screen TV. Upstairs, was an open plan landing and bedroom, a spa bath fitted with radio/CD player and nozzle lights that continually changed the water colour, a sink, a separate WC and a utility room. There is a bar adjacent to the lobby and two restaurants, one a pizza eatery. Outside, directly opposite is an open-air restaurant and bar at the edge of the marina (summer months only).

The Holiday Club is situated a 15 minute bus ride from the city centre (they run every 20 minutes or so). The bus stop is located just outside the entrance gates. You can buy a discounted pass for however many days you want at the tourist office in Tampere railway station. There is a small grocery store about 500 metres away from the gates. Be aware that alcohol laws in Finland mean that you cannot buy wine or spirits in grocery stores, only beer. You need to go to Stockmann or Anttila department stores in Tampere city centre (look for the red Alco sign) to buy wine or spirits. Also you can only buy beer on Sundays, no other alcohol. The bus stops more or less outside Stockmann (which has an excellent supermarket in the basement) and is within a short walk of the railway station.

We've stayed in a number of timeshares in Europe and this is the best so far. We were not asked for either a deposit or payment for utilities which is a first for us in Europe and reflects the upscale nature of the resort.. Reception staff are helpful and efficient. Luggage store facilities.

Superb resort, thoroughly recommended and deservedly so.

Room Tip: Ask for one overlooking the marina.

A Penthouse over a lake
Yes, that is exactly was our good fortune to stay in, for nearly a week, in Tampere. Indeed, when I used the card key to open our room on the 11th floor of the Hotel, not Apartment, I saw four neatly placed beds for three members of our family, and beyond that a glass door and window, partially shaded with heavy, pastel coloured curtains that failed to hide the view beyond. What my eye saw past the door and a balcony was the blue waters of lake Nasijarvii. My wife and son who joined me shortly after were equally ecstatic. “I can stay here for a month”, she said. And we stayed six dreamy days and million star nights in room 1176. I must confess, however, that the term “Penthouse” was not coined by me but by a fellow guest who we met in the elevator/ lift, probably from Russia. So appropriate.
With such a view from the balcony and part of the room, everything else in the room was acceptable. The bath was spacious, fresh and clean; the towel racks were pleasantly heated, the towels were fresh, probably smelling a little of the spa in the adjacent Apartment block; there was a mini fridge but no arrangement for making tea or coffee. A wide side table, a TV and a cupboard with an ironing table and iron made up the rest of the room.
Breakfast was in the Restaurant in the main block approachable by a sheltered walkway. The spread and quality was OK. The scramble was baked, not creamy; the choice of breads was limited; cereals, butter, margarine, jams were enough for all; cold meat and cheese cuts; fresh greens; fresh fruits were either cut and mixed or whole oranges; tea, coffee, milk, orange and apple juices from dispensers or with sachets (tea/ coffee). The sausage was bland but I guess most were satisfied with another local specialty – black, warm and reportedly with fresh blood. We did not venture to try it out on hearing about the fresh blood in it.
But I must mention the quiet efficiency of the Manager Mr Risto Lippanen and the young ladies at the reception – Simi and Tina. We were booked in the Apartments section but not being from Scandinavia (indeed from a primarily hot and humid country), we were reluctant to spend six days in a spa attached apartment that had just no view of the lake. In fact, we had selected this Hotel only because of this possibility. So, we requested and waited. The staff was sympathetic on being pointed out that a room with a view of the lakes was our preference and such a request had specifically been made in our booking format nearly a year ago; precisely in September 2012 and again a month before our arrival. Then we got the good news – we had literally been sent up to the stars; with no additional charges but with breakfasts thrown in. Wonderful. Thank you, Management. You have endeared us to your Hotel. Indeed, our stay in Tampere thus became the highlight of our Finland tour. The accompanying photo is of one evening from our balcony.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor room facing the lake... and if you are lucky...

Stayed there with my wife and two kids for three nights. The hotel is pretty OK for it's price category - our room was clear and had everything we needed, breakfast choice was good so nothing bad here to mention. The biggest glitch is a walkway between the secondary building where we stayed and a reception - open to a rain/cold from its sides with cars crossing on their way from/to a parking it ruins any impression of care about a guests. From the reception side it has a regular door followed by one that opens automatically towards you - our daughter was almost hit by it. We haven't used spa so nothing to say about it. Parking on a hotel street is free from 6pm to 9am and on weekends - but the number of places is limited.

We had a three-night stay, and it was perfectly comfortable. The best thing was was our 11th floor room, which afforded beautiful views over the lake and, given that it was July, the midnight setting sun and blue period. The hotel amenities were oriented fully towards families, which we expected and which is fine, but it is worth being prepared. Breakfasts were particularly busy and, while it was a very typical Finnish breakfast buffet, this impacted on quality and our enjoyment to some degree - it was difficult for staff to keep up clearing tables etc. The spa is in a great location but it is a trek to the city centre; we knew this, it was our choice and we enjoyed walking back and forth, but again it is worth bearing in mind. In summary, a really nice room because of the view, but the common areas and spa were more oriented to families than couples. Probably good rather than very good but we would certainly return.

Stayed here for two nights last week. Great location by the lake and we were lucky enought to have a room on the eighth floor with lovely views. The only reason for choosing this hotel was that our daughter had been living in student accommodation nearby since August last year and my husband and I went out to help her back with all her luggage! She also stayed in the room. Room was ok if slightly dated and as the previous review stated the bathroom was a bit smelly(drain smell). No tea/coffee making facilities and no room/ location area information, no toiletries except for shower gel on the wall of the shower and shower cream by the wash basin which was horrible to use.

Because the hotel is in a separate building, when you walk through the outdoor walkway for breakfast or to use the swimming pool its freezing especially in flip flops/slippers and towelling robe and this was April! Its much colder in deep winter. Enjoyed the pool, steam room etc and had peviously paid to use when staying elsewhere.

Breakfast was included and was buffet style with a great deal of choice and the dining areas were really nice.

However, when we checked out we were presented with an extra bill for using the spa area for which shocked us as we thought it was included in the hotel price we had paid(was not cheap to stay there) . I did argue but was told we were told... we were not as all we were told on checking in was where the room was and what time the breakfast was served and the pool opening times! I had no paper work to say this either. Also the cheap slippers left in the room that appeared to be complimentary were not! ( I reckon they were worth 1 euro) . They charged us 6 euros a a pair, and I had to explain that we had only been left two pairs anyway so she knocked of the price of one pair...big deal. Apparently the slipper price was to be found on the mini bar menu!!!!! I told her I did not look at that as we never use the overpriced mini bars anyway. I have never heard of anything so stupid.

Nice location but I would not stay there again as the pool is not included in the price. The Sokos Ilves in the centre is far far superior...I have stayed there twice and its been perfect each time.

The pool department was very small and boring. Walking from hotel room to the pool department (actually it is not a spa at all) on a -2C windy day was not a nice experience - and your slippers were then of course not clean ones when you entered the pool area. The hotel room was clean but the bathroom was smelly and the corridors were waiting to be renovated. Reception services very good. Paying 10 eur/day for car parking was absolutely too much as the hotel is not in the city centrum.

The spa area was disappointment, quite small, with baby pool and larger pool. During our visit there were plenty of older people. Note that from the hotel there is a short walk outside to the spa building-bring your slippers.
The room was good, excellent bed. Private sauna and balcony in the room, very good!
Typical breakfast. No night life at all, only small Pub nearby.
