Hotelli City Hovi
Ranked #3 of 6 Hotels in Rauma
Reviewed June 19, 2014

My husband and I stayed in the City Hovi for two nights, 7 and 8 June 2014, while visiting friends. I chose the hotel because it was reasonably priced (for Finland) and received decent reviews on this site and another. I knew I wasn't getting the Ritz, but that was okay.

The place is immaculately clean. While the hotel's decor has been refreshed, the bathrooms are dated (and miniscule). But, even at their age, there is no evidence of grot in the shower or around the toilet and sink.

The rooms are tiny; our two large suitcases filled the available floorspace. One ended up going back into the rental car.

The staff was quite nice. Upon check-in my request for a dark room had been noted and we were taken to one that she thought would suit. When we noted that there were no room-darkening shades, she immediately offered a different room, noting that its view was over the parking lot so was not as nice. Given that the first room looked over a city street, we didn't feel there was anything lacking in the trade off. (Why only some rooms have shades is anyone's guess....)

The breakfast was adequate. Baked goods were store-bought, but there was fresh porridge in a slow cooker that was quite good
.
Unfortunately, the person who was assigned to straightening our room stopped half way thru the job. When we returned from a day with our friends, we found one bed made but the other not. Towels had been collected, but nothing replaced them. When I advised the gentleman on duty of the situation, he seemed genuinely peeved on my behalf.

If I were to return to Rauma, I think I'd look into another option, but if nothing panned out I'd not have a problem staying there again.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have light-blocking window treatments (only sheer curtains). If that might bother y...

This is special and small boutique-like hotel. Very peacefull and offers good night sleep. You can park your car conveniently near the entrance in courtyard where its safe from the traffic. Very near the old city. Everything was just perfect.

Came for a single night stay after a day in Rauma. The hotel is very well situated, the staff very welcoming and generous. Breakfast was the best we had in Finland so far - many kinds of yoghurts, cheese, fruits, bread, coffee, tea, vegetables, juice , and all very fresh and of good quality. You get wifi and parking for free. Best value, highly recommended.

This hotel is very well situated just outside the Old Town and only 5 - 10 minutes walk from the bus station. (Use the outside ramp for wheelie luggage - don't struggle up the stairs. I wish tourist information had told us when we went in to check where the hotel was).

We had an attractive corner room with windows on two sides overlooking the quiet canal and trees. There was very little street noise. There was a couch, as well as a desk and chair. A clean bathroom.

The little restaurant area had a TV where we watched some Olympic events. Breakfast was good. They provide free Finnish coffee during the day.

It's a small hotel with great service. The nice girl with the long plait was so obliging. She always offered help with a smile. She did our laundry overnight for €7.

The reason we chose this hotel was that it lists air conditioning and we were sick of overheated Finnish hotels in summer. It didn't work at night and we were hot both nights. They had put a stand up fan in the room to help things.

Old Rauma is great!

Friendly welcome from the receptionist. Good free parking (although all parking is free in Rauma). Handy location just off the main drag but not noisy. 5 mins walk from the old town and about 10 mins from the new town. The curtains were a bit thin so a sleeping mask is useful in the summer. The room was a decent size with good storage and a comfy chair. Breakfast was OK. Overall for the cost I'd recommend this hotel for one or two nights stay.

Stayed for one night during the Rauma Lace Week. Very affordable and great service. Breakfast was ok, rooms seemed to belong to the 90's. I recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Rauma on a budget.
