I stayed 2 nights at the Scandic Jyvaskyla in August. The hotel has a good location (well - Jyvaskyla is small anyway, it's easy to walk everywhere in the town centre) but the hotel and rooms were very 80's and seen better days. The carpets were faded and panelling in rooms and in the corridors was very old fashioned. I would have expected some Scandinavian cool but found none. In terms of decor, the bathroom was the worse - rose/pinkie suite!
All in all our stay was fine. But there was nothing Finnish or Scandinavian cool about the hotel! I did like the bins as there are 3 sections; one for organic waste, one for paper and one for all other waste. The beds were comfortable, the hotel has a large and free of charge car park for guests and breakfast is included in the price. Basic but fit for purpose, I guess.
The Hilton Honours Gold VIP benefits are not much to cheer about either; you get a bottle of water and 2 pieces of fruit per day. If you are a Silver member, you can get water and fruit only once during your stay...
Would I stay again - probably not. If I ever return to Jyvaskyla I'll probably try the Sokos Hotel Alexandra.
