“Love it!”
Reviewed November 6, 2011

As a vegetarian, I love this place. The food is excellent, even non-vegetarians have told me they like it. The venue doesn't have too much unique character but it's ok, too. There is a toilet for disabled, as well. The food is not cheap but absolutely worth the price. The restaurant would be even better if it was open in the evening, as well.

“Vegetarian buffet, food priced by wage”
Reviewed February 15, 2011

This restaurant was founded by a Finnish actress, Satu Silvo. The restaurant serves vegetarian food, which is to be collected from a buffet, then priced by wage. The selection of dishes varies as does the quality of the buffet. There should be still plenty of choice for everyone, excluding the beefeaters. The atmosphere is dining-hall like with wooden, unclothed tables and a lot of vegetarian-oriented people having their daily luches.

“Visiting Vegetarians in Helsinki S'il vous plait try Silvoplee”
Reviewed October 4, 2010

Vegetarians can have a hard time when traveling and Finland is not exactly awash with vegetarian restaurants. Granted there is almost always a vegetarian option on most menus but it probably isn't particularly adventurous and often not vegan. Silvoplee then is a breath of fresh air for the palette being exclusively vegetarian/vegan and using organic locally produced ingredients whenever possible, which means most of the time.

Owned by Finnish actress Satu Silvo, Silvoplee has been around since 2000. It's popular, especially with women and was packed when I ate there on a Thursday. Talking with one of the chefs it would seem that Finnish men are only slowly waking up to the delights of vegetarian cuisine.

The restaurant is one large high ceilinged room which reminded me of an old school classroom. Pale yellow walls are decorated with the work of whichever artist is exhibiting in that particular month.

The menu changes daily with three main dishes on offer, which always include a soup, supplemented with salads, sauces, dips, pulses, baked, fried, sauté and raw vegetables and fruit. You also get bread and water included in the price. Food is presented as a self-service buffet so you can pile it on. As you pay by weight though, don't get too carried away, as you can easily break your budget. The food is all delicious (my opinion) so getting carried away is all too easy.

Oh yes, if you still have some room, they bake their own cakes too!
