We took our chances and showed up for an early dinner at 6 pm. They did not have a city view table available, but one that overlooked the solarium. I have a great appreciation for the Finnish designer of the 1930's Alvar Aalto. His Savoy vase is found at every table with flowers. His lamps and other lighting adorn the dining room. I had the wild duck and my husband had the fish. The fish was a better choice. The duck was a bit over cooked (I do realize it is wild and cannot be served rare). The amuse bouche was the best bite we had on our trip. The salmon appetizer was also superior. Curiously, the bathroom doors do not lock and can create an embarrassing situation. If you are in Helsinki and want something special, don't hesitate to visit the Savoy.

For architects and those who love good service and food you have to come to the 8th floor and enjoy this special combination. In addition, obviously great view over Helsinki. Even so one can feel that the building might need an uplift one can feel the brilliant architect and design from Alvar Alto from the toilets to the lamps and flower vase. Have a glance at Floor 7 with the different meeting rooms if you can. Enjoy!

If booking I advise you to request a table on the indoor roof terrace where your meal will be complemented by some stunning panoramic city views. The restaurant itself has much history, opened around 1930, the pictures in the lobby area indicate that the style has not changed much. This is a fine dining restaurant and the staff deliver it in that spirit, with a warm greeting as you arrive to impeccable and friendly service including interesting explanations of the dishes and wines that are served. English language is no problem. The food and wine is exquisite. We chose the set garden menu which has four courses and the complementary wine package. In our view this adds to a very relaxing and enjoyable experience where everything is pre-selected by the chef and sommelier. I am sure you will not find a fine dining experience as good as this in Helsinki. However this is notably much more expensive than most restaurants in Helsinki, so be prepared to pay about 200 Euro per person for food and drinks.

Service was lacking warmth but was very efficient.

Its a little touristy and guys on business etc, but the restaurant is stunning.

A must visit when in Helsinki

BY any stroke of the imagination, the Savoy is not what I expected in Helsinki. the restaurant is located on the top floor of the building and overlooks the central square. There is both inside dining and outside dining, but of course, the outside area is probably only open in the summers.

the service is masterful and elegant with multiple people looming about meeting your each and every need. The wine list is comprehensive, but perhaps a little light on North American wines, which are my favorite, but have the rest of the world covered well.

the food comes as a multi-course display of various Finnish tastes with a definite resemblance to Cordon-blue. The portions are adequate and pleasing to the eye. The taste is exquisite and after having our main course, we have little room for desert, but the generously brought us truffle chocolates.

The restaurant is high end and cost is in the $$$$ range, but well worth it, if you appreciate the experience of fine dining.
