Description: Authentic flavours, wanton passion, wild herbs, crazy ideas, love for artisan produce and the skill to make incredibly tasty food. This is what Juuri is made of. We want you to enjoy being our guest and to leave in good spirits. Our recipe is simple: we do things right in the kitchen, we respect the raw materials, we want to exceed expectations and we delight in our own work. The result is food rooted in enjoyment. Many people today are discussing small producers and organic food. What could be better since at Juuri we have put them in a central position for nearly ten years. We favour the small and local for several reasons, and taste is certainly not the least of them. We have a rule of four P's for our raw ingredients: Perfect Produce from Preferred Producers. When products are transported from close by they arrive at the table in fresh condition. It is a joy to favour small and local.

Helsinki restaurants are expensive. The set menu costs more than 45 euros here, to which you should add drinks. But... This is a truly good restaurant. I had three sapas, each of them wonderfully well done, tasty, innovative, finely textured, then the day's main course, refreshing fried lavaret (or rather vendace) with a very smooth and delicate side dish wrapped in a green pancake, and finally a goat yoghurt "parfait" with white chocolate and liquorice. It was not just original or intriguing. It was up to anything I have found in Paris or anywhere for the same price. Add to this that the waitress was friendly, witty, efficient and discreet, and what you get here is quite close to a perfect dinner. Having tried the Aino restaurant on the northern Esplanade a few years ago, quite a satisfactory experience, I was not prepared to such a superb surprise. Warmly recommended.

Sapas are Finnish tapas and this restaurant delighted in the variety f what was offered. We elected the tasting menu which was 6 different sapas and two mans for two of us,malus two (same) desserts. All of the sapas were great, tho the "beer cheese" was a little on the bland side, the "fried" lavaret with a nettle crepe wrapped around smoked trout was delicious! If we had to do it again, however, wed probably elect to split 10-12 sapas just for the variety, excellent service but if its a hot night eat outside (at the only table?) as the air conditioning seemed poor .....

This place is fairly small (less than 10 tables), but they put out great food, expertly prepared. The food was delicious, and the 'sapas' options were great. Service was good, although the kitchen seemed 'slow' to get food out. We waited nearly 40 minutes between our appetizers & main course. Only negative was ants. There were dozens of ants crawling on the table, and when we pointed it out to the server, her response was "oh we get those all the time in summer", as if that somehow excused it (we never saw ants at any other restaurant in Finland). Definitely make reservations for dinner, as we saw at least 6 groups turned away, as they were booked up that night.

I dined in this lovely restaurant with a local friend and had a very good experience. We had a selection of "sapas" with small, tasty portions of beautifully presented food. 5 sapas are enough for a light meal. On consideration of the quality of the food and that we're in Helsinki prices seem appropriate (5 sapas + two beers = 35 euros, including a complimentary entree and fresh bread basket & butter). The waitress was nice if a little pushy on the orders.

Juuri was chosen as the best restaurant in Finland in 2010. It is famous of its little Sapas tasters. We visited there with our family and were generally very satisfied with the food. There were many interesting combinations in the Sapas'es and most of them were delicious. Still have to say that we perhaps expected even little more - not to say we were disappointed but the real wow-effect we didn't get.

I was delighted of the modest pricing of wines - still decent selection of them. And you don't have to use huge amount of money to get your belly full anyway.
