I had a wonderful 3 nights on this hotel.
Kind, fun and super people all over the hotel, to service us. Nice, big and well equipped rooms, very silent, and dark all day, if the curtains drawn for, all that gives a good nights sleep.

The restaurant is super, VERY good food, and the best, funny, kind and professional staff, from the black bearded "bandit" , the kind and nice women, to the guy I think was there, even before they opened the cell doors and let him out, a man with great stories.

That it was a prison, and they rebuilt it without destroying that atmosphere in design, makes it beautiful and very special, I loved that.

Good central placement, all you need is there, EXCEPT a "real" bar after the restaurant is closed, room service, and better WiFi at the rooms.

Go there, enjoy, you will like it.

Room Tip: Go high up.

This is an ideal hotel for a Helsiki city break. The number 4 tram stops outside the hotel and takes you straight to the city centre, however we walked on most occasions from the hotel to the centre (15 to 20 minutes stroll) and there are different routes to take, for example past Uspenski and Helsinki cathedral or along the harbour. The airport tourist information staff were extremely helpful and after much deliberation we decided to get a 4-day transport card for 17.5 Euros which did not cover the bus from the airport to the city but did include all Helsinki city transport. We used it for all of the sights and museums including the Olympic park and the ferry to Suomenlinna.
The hotel itself was perfect and keeps the prison theme throughout (for example tin plates and mugs for those who choose them). We found the rooms had everything we needed - shower, tea and coffee, safe, flat screen TV etc. In fact a perfect nights sleep - the walls are quite thick! There was plenty of choice for breakfast. All in all an ideal hotel.

Comfortable hotel in old jail near from city centre. Breakfast is tasty. Cell (room) has big and soft bed. Staff is very responsive. Reception worked 24/7. We stayed at the hotel for two days and were very pleased.

The hotel is a protected property which was earlier a jail. Intrigued enough ?
this is a delightful property, which is rather different from the standard hotels.
hotel is situated not exactly in the city centre, but about a 15 - 25 minute walk away.
I would recommend to use the tram to the hotel, something i was unaware of before going there and this will really help you.
near the central station (200 metres away) is a tram station by the name Lasipalatsi.
take the tram no 4 to the hotel. the station is exactly outside the hotel. the fare would be around 2.5 - 3 euros per person. English is widely spoken.

as for the hotel, its a unique experience, in terms of interiors and decor. rooms are slighlty smaller, but clean and elegant.
the bathroom flooring is not the best, so water flows from the shower area to the rest of the bathroom. be careful about that.
although we had a non smoking room, room smelt a bit of cigarette smoke, which was duly pointed out at the reception.

the setting for breakfast again is unique, and the variety is decent.

Receptionists are very friendly and help out with directions / maps. like most of helsinki, everyone speaks english.
would like to point out and thank receptionist Laura for her help and friendly nature.

Property recommended to fellow travellers.

Most others have commented on the unique and wonderful things about this hotel, so I'll try not to repeat. We were able to (figure out and) take public transportation between the airport and the hotel and loved the fact that the tram was right outside the hotel. Very convenient! Loved the bathroom, great shower, and thought the television being the wake-up alarm was technologically unique. Breakfast was very very good and the staff went above and beyond ... on our first stay, we had to depart by 5:30; breakfast service didn't begin by then but the staff had packaged up a delicious breakfast for us to take with us in the taxi. Should we ever return to Helsinki, we would definitely stay here again!

We had made a reservation for a room with an extra bed for our daughter and unfortunately didn't get a former jail, but one of the administration offices. But because of that we had a large window, which made the room light. The location is perfect, we walked to the center and left the car at the parking. When you don't feel like walking the tramway stops in front of the hotel. Breakfast was okay, but not really special. The restaurant Jailbird doesn't have a children's menu so at night you have to go out to eat. That is with a small kid, after a day sightseeing, unfortunately. But all in all a great hotel which we will use again. Only stupid thing is that the parking inside the premises is not owned by the hotel. The signs that you mustn't forget to pay the parking meter hangs everywhere, only you miss it when you park in front of the hotel. We had a ticket in ten minutes while we were checking in. 10 minutes in this hotel and we lost €55....

Excellent hotel in aprevious prison. Rooms are very clean, the athmosphere is unique. The breakfast is pretty good. The hotel is located on a peninsula about 2 km from the centre. The tram station is just in front of the hotel.
For me, everything was perfect. The only reason, I have not rated with "excellent" is that I had to think about the people who stayed her only some years ago, not having this luxory environment, and not being her voluntary.
And the hotel management should think about whether this memory should be kept in the way they actually do; for me, it was a little bit too much.

Hi, good to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us. You are absolutely right. The past of the premises have been totally different time. We use the past in marketing, since it is essential part of the house`s history. I am sorry, if you felt it to be too much. Since the past is gone, we aim to have a positive sprit, but also to remember the stories of the exceptional past.
