“Good but overrated”
Reviewed September 22, 2012

This hotel was not a bad at all, and checked most of the boxes. However, given the hype on this website and the price I paid, it did not live up to my expectations. Having said that, I have noticed that Helsinki is an expensive city in general, so perhaps standards should be lowered all around.

The location is great. It is walking distance from Senate Square, the market, and the ferry port to Tallinn in Estonia. There are loads of restaurants and cafes nearby, plus a little convenience store.

The breakfast buffet was included and excellent, with a large selection of meats, cheeses, eggs, bacon, eggs, cereal and fruit.

The room had a TV with two English news channels and on-demand films (payable) and wifi. The hotel staff were helpful and spoke excellent English.

The spa is also notable- three different types of sauna plus some lounge chairs. There is a 20 EUR fee (not worth it, but when I went one of the saunas was broken so the price was a more reasonable 10 EUR). The use of the spa is free with a massage booking, which I did make and it was awesome. There was also a little gym.

Now, the disadvantages: The room was absolutely tiny. I know that European standards are a little smaller, I have stayed in hotels of similar standard in Tallinn, Oslo and Riga and these were not like Hotel Glo Kluuvi. There was just enough room for the bed and the desk was tucked into a little corner out of sight. This was also far more expensive than hotels in Tallinn and Riga (which I felt were far superior to this) by a factor of around 1.5.

Nice modern hotel in a good location. Reminds me of the "Mal maison" chain in UK. Easy going and relaxing with a good size room (we were upgraded to a suite), pleasant staff and a funky bar area. Having wi-fi is a must these days and this hotel didn't disappoint.

We did not intend to stay at Hotel Glo, but where sent there from Hotel Kämp, because they do not allow dogs there. Something we had mentioned when making the booking, but were only told when arriving to check in.
The first room we received was a deluxe double and no smoking, but someone had smoked in there, the couch had cigarette burns in it and hairs, it was just unclean.
We asked for an other room, and they politely apologized and gave us a new one. This one did not smell of smoke, but still the couch was filthy, also had cigarette burns and hairs in it.
Most of the rooms furniture and fixtures where scuffed, for instance the light switched that originally have been white but then painted to silver, have all scratch marks on them so you see the white underneath. All the wood surfaces have worn out.
Also in the evening when it started getting chillier we realized the heating does not work, we informed the front desk, and they said we can change room or then have it fixed the next day. At this point we were tired of room changing so opted for next day repair. Next day someone had been in our room to look at it, but still did not work.
It is clear that this hotel was about 6 years ago nice and new, but the decor is already dated and not in good shape, not what i would call a 4 star rating, and not worth the price, i would say the rooms are at a maximum of 130-150eur a night range anything over that is too much.
The service is good and very helpful, at least the front desk. But the who ever does the cleaning and repairs of the rooms really need to improve, their standards are lacking.

We've been staying in this hotel for several years, and are sad to say it is not very great anymore. It is a bit sad as it was very trendy and modern just a few years ago. The location is excellent, but it is beginning to show its age with the furniture, sofas, and even light switches showing their age: scratches, stains, marks. A few things in the room did not work, and the light switches are utterly confusing. A sour smell came from the drain of the sink when brushing teeth. The breakfast was always hit or miss, and now it is definitely miss. The television even had some strange interference on some of the channels, at least the English language channels, with the audio sounding scrambled. With just a little attention to detail and renovation, I think this would again be a great hotel.

Very central, located in between the esplanade, shopping centres, Helsinki cathedral, the market, etc. It's within crawling distance of most things really.
Do some shopping and sightseeing, pop into your hotel to drop off your haul, freshen up and get out for some more shopping. Very convenient and at the same time quiet, at least my room.

Colouring in earthy colours, some dark wood, and dimmed lighting - nice design, but for those who like white and minimalistic this is not your place. It ishowever quite warm, cosy and quiet. A little worn in places and in need of some love.

Windows can't be opened, except in rooms toward the courtyard, where one might be opened, but then not closed again properly, since there is no handle, you just push it shut. Strange.
Even with my one little window as open as I could get it, it was a little too warm in the room. Air conditioning doesn't go very low. Guessing min 18 degrees.

Free Wi-Fi.

Very nice staff.

Good pizza in the Carlito's restaurant on the first floor. Also good breakfast.

Didn't try the spa as I found the treatments too expensive.

Would I stay here again? Yes, absolutely. But it would have to be in a courtyard room where I could open the window.

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms are probably quieter, although you hear the ventilation 24h. And in most or all cour...

We just returned from two nights stay in Glo Kluuvi Hotel, which we enjoyed very much. The hotel is very modern and the staff is nice and very service minded. If we go to Helsinki again, this would be our clear choice.

We stayed one night in the basic queen room and upgraded for 35 euro's to a mini-suite.Seperate sitting area with seperate TV. Huge bathroom, big shower very modern. Everything is new and in excellent condition. Super clean. Bed was very comfortable and in the German tradition had two seperate comforters, very obliging when we asked for a top sheet. A breakfast buffet was included in the price of the room. We found it to be excellent for our needs. Had many offerings, juice, some fruits, homemade yougurt, salad, fresh breads, ham and cheese and hot bacon, scrambled eggs and sausage. Not much in breakfast sweets. In fact we found in Helsinki desserts are not much. The buffet is open until 10:00 which is nice when you are adapting to the time change. The people at the hotel were very helpful and it is a wonderful location. Shopping all around you and trams to everywhere within the block. It was very quiet and if you like thw windows can be opened.

Room Tip: We had a courtside room but the street is quiet even during the day. The Bar is open in the evening...
