Unfortunately, it was raining when we visited the Sebilius Monument, which is quite a sight and must really look great in sunlight. We were utilizing a private guide, who drove us quite close to the monument, but it didn't seem convenient by public transport, although the tour buses were visiting. It's worth seeing on a tour, but I wouldn't go there just to see it.

Celebrating Finland's greatest composer, the Sibelius Monument in the Sibelius Park on the edge of Helsinki was designed and installed, after a competition, by Ella Hiltunen with 600 carved cylinders representing both organ pipes and silver birch trees, the national tree of Finland.

For music lovers, this is an essential place to visit, even in the rain as on the day we were there.

Complete waste of time to see some pipes hung is some fashion. Good water body and park but thats it tourist-buses parked on the street in front of the statue probably to use the toilets .

This modern sculpture was designed by the Finnish sculptor Ella Hiltunen. It consists of more than 600 hollow steel pipes welded together. A second sculpture of the face of Sibelius is located beside the main sculpture. This site is bound to be crowded by heaps of people as the tour buses pull in. Wait a few minutes & you'll have the area to yourself for better photos. Stand below the sculpture & look upward for some neat photographs.

This monument comprises of two different sculptures, and both are elegantly presented. The surface is similar, with Sibelius’s mask striking an impressive pose. The main monument of the pipes is different and separated from the man. Not sure of the meaning, but it provides a unique perspective on one of Finland’s finest sons.
