We visited on a day when the stadium was not in use. We viewed it from ground floor level, then took the lift (small charge) to the top of the tower for the most spectacular views over the complex and the city as far as the port and beyond.
The word "legacy" has been over-used re the London Games, but this is an example of how to create a legacy. The main stadium is surrounded by sports facilities, which were being used by schoolchildren during our visit and are available to the public as well as to local teams.
Take your camera up that tower!

The weather did not help my trip but visited here for the European championships! The seats were very uncomfortable but the catering was satisfactory. The stadium itself is very interesting!

Though there is not much to see inside the stadium except the tracks and fields, the tower is worth a climb. It gives lovely views of the city from the top. And its very economical. The top of the tower is small. But it provides excellent views from the top. But they r nt marked.

An old Olympic stadium, not really much to see. Even during the European Championships (athletics), when we visited, not much was going on here! If you are in the neighbourhood, pop by just to see it, but don't go out of your way!

The Tower has reopened and the view over Helsinki is great. There are no signs on the sides, so be sure to bring a map with you. The fee is reduced if you combine it with a visit to the olymipic museum that houses a large collection of Sports memorabilia. For people that have been to similar museums in Lausanne or Barcelona this is small, but quite niceoly complementing as there is a focus on early games and winter games.
In the entry level there is a possibility to send an up to 60 second video tube message to friends or connect it to your twitter for free.
