I spent most of my time in the prehistory exhibit, which is one of the best laid-out exhibits I've seen. I went more quickly through the other exhibits due to lack of time, but they looked equally well done. It's absolutely worth a visit if you're interested in history or archaeology of any age.

Very good museum with lots of pre-historic objects, displays of Finnish recent history, some Sami things and so on. It's located in a imposing building. It's free on friday after 4pm.

We just returned from a cruise of the Baltic and decided to spend time at the National Museum. We found this museum extremely well arranged and moved smoothly through the exhibits without getting confused. It was very informative and gave us a good incite into the origins of this nation. Not to be missed. Since you will be close by don't miss the church in the rock which is within walking distance. What a creative use for a solid rock, very inspiring.

The museums are divided into 3 floors which over 10 exhibition halls. Very impressive for those Scandinavian old maps in the last part of the exhibition. The hall of 1910-1950's Finnish way of living also worth to spend most of the time there.
