Getting to Korkeasaari is very easy, by bus number 16 from Rautatietori (right next to railwaystation) or during the summer by boat from Market Square. The bus is quite cheap about 5€ one adult and 2 children. The entrance fee to the zoo is not bad in my mind, 10 euros an adult and 5 euros per child and on Mondays you can get in half price is you have finnish s-bonus card.
The Zoo is clean and the cages of the animals are sizable enough so that you don't start to feel bad for the animals. It is a lot better than some other east-european zoo's I've visited in. We had looked for the feeding schedule from the net and new the time when animals were fed but finding the animals was quite difficult.
Because the summer is gone and it's autumn time there were not too much people in the zoo which was really nice. There was a place were you could buy lunch from swedish buffet and also some a la carte portions.
We had a lovely day (3 hours) in the Zoo, it was nice but nothing special. Been there done that -kind of a feeling.
