We slept 3 nights in this building with my wife. The location is not interesting for tourists - you can catch the tram if you walk 300 m but the city centre is far away, about 30 min by tram. We only went there as part of a big group, and this hotel has many rooms.

Honest three stars - poor, but clean, the room is nothing superfluous - but spend most it, as in Helsinki for a sum decent hotel, you will not find. Afflicts only paid wi-fi...but spend a night before flight to Europe - is OK. Have free parking

Helsinki is an expensive place to stay, and if you want to save a bit of money the Ava Hotel is a nice choice. It's not very centrally located; about a 50 minute walk from the central station. However, public transport stops just around the corner, with buses departing every minute to the city centre and a tram service, as well as the airport bus.

The room is nice, the bed is great, and the bathroom will do. The service could have been better: it would have been nice if they had vacuum cleaned the room once or twice during my stay. Being allergic to dust mites, this service was sorely missed.

Wifi is available, but the only option is purchasing a 24-hour ticket at 8 euros, which I personally find a rip-off. Wifi reception is fine though.

Recommended if you're on a tight budget and don't mind using public transport.

AVA hotel is a little unusual, but a good option.
There are no double rooms, only single and twin. Some rooms are studio rooms with kitchenette and utensils.
The rooms are clean and warm, and well stocked.
There is a sauna in the basement, a free communal kitchen and a free laundry.
Breakfast is buffet style and pretty good actually (though costs an extra 7EUR)
However, the whole place feels like a big hostel, or student accommodation.
The reception closes at 22:00, so you need a security card to get in (If you happen to accidentally leave it in your room after this, which is easy to do, it will cost you 45 EUR to get someone to let you in!)
Some staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, but the boss is totally the opposite.
The hotel is located a few KM from the city centre, though it is easily accessible by tram. The tram is 12 stops from the main railway station, and takes about 20-25 mins.
Conveniently though, the public airport bus stops on the main road right around the corner from the hotel!

I stayed in the hotel for a few nights and it was very comfy, I had a good rest there. Unfortunately, it's a bit out of the city centre, so it might not be for everyone. There is quite a good tram connection, though. The furniture is basic but really okay, including a TV. The lobby is nicely furnished and you can use the internet there. They have a sauna, you can borrow an electric kettle and hair dryer. Some of the staff are really nice, others a bit dull. At 10.00 pm sharp (!!) the lobby closes and from that point on they're not able to make any calls anymore. I desperately needed a taxi for the airport which I had to call on my own mobile. Also, they're a bit short on information in general.

Offers good value for money, rooms are basic but clean, quiet location. Breakfast is for additional cost and is also very basic.

I stayed here three times already and I can only recommend this hotel.
The rooms are clean and simple furnished (two single-beds, desk, chair and television). The bathroom is not that big but if you know Etap hotel bathrooms it's big :-) The staff is friendly and helpful.
For me this is the perfect choice if you want a good value for money.
