“Centrally located”

Hostel Domus Academica is centrally located, only 10-15 mins walk from the Central Railway Station (Rautatieasema), and within walking distance to several attractions (Rock Church, Natural History Museum, National Museum, just to name a few). I stayed in a 3-bed female dorm, and it was nice to find 3 normal beds rather than bunk beds for a change! The room was okay but it wasn't as clean as I would like it to be - there were crumbs on the table and the floor was a bit dusty, but they provide a broom and a dustpan so I did some cleaning myself. Each room has a kitchenette, a fridge included (which is a plus!), but not equipped with cookware nor dining ware (can be borrowed from the common kitchen, so no biggie). Breakfast is not included in the price, it costs 7 Euro. If you're on a tight budget, you can buy food from the supermarket across the street. Wifi is only available in the common room. The staff are friendly and helpful. I arrived in Helsinki early in the morning and asked if I could check in (check in time is at 3pm). Fortunately, there was an empty room available and they let me check in early!

A good solution in a very expensive city.
There were very nice guys at the receptions, the breakfast should be paid separately (7 euros) and served at the near restaurant room, very quiet and nice.
My room was quite big with two large bed ( very very comfortable!!!) a table and a bedside-table, a little kitchen which made me enthusiast untill I saw pots and dishes (dirty, useless), a pratical toilet with towels (no one will change your if you will stay 3 days so take care of them) and shower. While the bedroom seemed to be clean not the same could be said about the toilet, I 've had to wash it before use.
About 15 minute by walk to reach the main train station.
Overall a good stay.

Helpful, polite staff. Well stocked kitchen with all sort of utensils which they let you carry up to your room to cook. Flexible rules - we saw people sleeping in the common room if they arrived early or needed to leave later than the check out time. Well ventilated rooms with lots of light but hardly any sound. Located close to public transport that could take us anywhere in the city. Also close to a mall with lots of eating options. The only issue was the bed in one of the rooms - it had a very narrow, uncomfortable mattress that kept slipping to one side. Perfect otherwise!

cheaper than expected in an expensive city to stay. Clean room for two with bathroom.
breakfast was simple but enough to fill us. We asked for Gluten free breakfast and they brought us bread and fruit !!! helpful and without problems
will repeat for sure

Room Tip: room with private room for two is a must

My spouse and i enjoyed the proximity to the main train station, the room was very clean, with blackout drapes, spacious with a small kitchenette and table. We used the common area as you can use the pots there or take them to your room. This is a hostel so don't expect amenities on the high end. A market is across the street. And the price was right.

I found the rooms a bit clinical (nice to have a bathroom en suite but not so nice with no soap). A lot of street noise from below (cars) but right near a tram stop and walking distance to Central Station, the 'beach', the Rock Church and a manageable distance from the Cathedral and Market Square. Liked that it wasn't too close to loud bars and nightclubs.

In a nutshell:

- rooms are about as friendly as a hospital room
- no wifi in room -> a lot of people in the common area. problem: common area is tiny, about 20 seats for a hostel that fits 200 people. Did I mention the hospital charme?
- kitchen is tiny, no equipment. I think I saw two pots. the kitchen is also part of the common area. and (see above) hence sitting while eating is pure luck.

Cannot recommend this hostel
