If you are looking for an authentic Finnish sauna in Helsinki this is the place. Löyly/steam was very good. It takes you back to a time when locals had to use the sauna for their weekly bathing. I am an American but went with some Finnish friends and we all enjoyed our experience.

Yes, it is rustic, small, and cozy so don't expect a luxury spa. This is from a bygone era when Helsinki was once full of public saunas. We paid about 14 euros to get in and you get a wrist band with a key. The wooden lockers are about 3 feet high so all your clothes and towels will fit just fine. It's best to just go naked, everyone else is, and no one really cares, do leave you inhibitions behind dude !!! The actual sauna is gas operated and the heat is intense. One guy used the loyly with a long metal handle to pour water on the rocks. This made the heat more intense. I sat on the top row and for a while. I used my Russian sauna hat which helps make the heat a little more tolerable. Caution: don't sit with your back on the tiled wall in back, it's super hot. Use a wooden back rest. There is only one shower. Just use one of the birch whisks while waiting to rinse off. The courtyard outside in nice. They offer free coffee, water, and cherry tomato treats. We sat outside in our towels and smoked cigars while my brother got some Finnish heavy metal music on his cell phone. The young guy in charge spoke English and was really nice. We were the only Americans and everyone there was Finnish and two other guys were speaking French. So it wasn't a touristy kind of place.
