“Very comfortable”
Reviewed May 24, 2013

The Glo art is set in an art nouveau castle and the exterior, front door, foyer, kitchen are very characteristic of a medieval castle. The rooms are quite modern and fairly standard as far as European hotels go. Very clean with the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. The breakfast in the dining room was superb. Very plentiful with a lot of choices. It certainly set us up for a day of sightseeing. The staff were very friendly, very helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is centrally located, so we were able to walk to restaurants and the waterfront. It is about a half hour out from the airport by taxi. Even though we didn't have time to use public transport it was all close by and reasonably priced. A very good experience for first timers in Helsinki.

The main building of the hotel is housed in an Art Nouveau-style castle, so the lobby areas and the dining room have incredible character: vaulted ceilings and dozens of architectural touches that are simply lovely. The individual hotel rooms are in a different structure, so they're more Scandinavian-modern and, I suspect, vary considerably; I was here with a group and we had a variety of different bathroom styles and room layouts. My room was comfortable and the bathroom was great, with a full tub. Location is decent: about a 20-minute walk from Senate Square, so not right in the thick of downtown -- but the neighborhood is pleasant, with a charming small market hall just to the west. Would stay here again, definintely.

Yes, the rooms are very small. My friend and I were in a twin setup that might as well have been a double, and we had upgraded to the larger room. However, the room was lovely and clean and reminded me a bit of the W Chain where I have stayed before. It was the comfiest bed I slept in during my stay in Finland.

The staff were completely lovely and helpful the entire stay, and the hotel did what we needed it to do. It is one of those places that offers plenty of extras all for a fee, and I felt I had to be careful on that score. There wasn't even free coffee in the room, but rather a machine in the hall that served it for 1 euro.

The lobby is quite lovely, which is the part of the hotel in the old (as in 1907) castle, and I thought the Finnish designs on the ceiling were a nice touch. The hotel bar, is small and cosy as well.

The neighborhood is fantastic, however! It's a short walk to the design museum, and it's a very local, hip neighborhood with plenty of restaurants (as well as other hotels).

Booked room via a 3rd party website, indicating that we were 2 adults and a child. Upon our arrival we were told that there was no bed for the child and no space to put another bed in the room that we booked. Friendly staff apologized and booked us in a slightly bigger room at no cost and promised to work Service was efficient and friendly.

Breakfast was very good. Lots of choice and fresh items.

Location is ok. City centre was walking distance (20 minutes). Also not far from the ferries to Tallinn. Easy to leave luggage in hotel for later pickup.

The castle experience doesn't go very much beyond the facade. that however wasn't the reason we picked the hotel.

We're taking weekend holiday in Helsinki at Glo Art. I must say that we expected more. There was no big things about complaining, but.... In this kind of building there is lots of potential, but everything was still just normally. Rooms were small, furniture was nice but normal, bathroom was pretty much just toilet etc. Staff was friendly and breakfast was good but finnish tradition level.
Conclusion: Hotel was just ok, it is normal finnish hotel in different kind of colours. No mind to pay "Glo"-extra. So if you get good price (under 120e/day), it is worth of thinking. 3+ stars.

Room Tip: There is a smaller building in coartyard if you like silence.

This hotel was not a city castle in the way that we imagined from its advertisements. Beyond the facade and lobby, resemblance to a castle is missing. While the facility does an OK job within limitations imposed by an inner city location, and the staff was friendly and helpful, we would not choose it again.

Good location, superb breakfast, good and efficient service. The castle atmosphere is very nice, the rooms are clean and modern, beds comfortable, price affordable. Minus points for the small room and the long way from the reception to the room. Our room was on the 6th floor behind two separate lifts, several corridors, multiple doors that had to be opened with the key card... After the first time we got used to it but was a bit of a shock in the beginning. It was very quiet though on the 6th floor and it was easy to sleep without any kind of disturbance.

The see-through shower was not a problem as we were travelling as a couple but I can imagine that among friends or colleagues it could be quite uncomfortable. The breakfast was really worth it and unlike in Glo Kluuvi, in Glo Art they did not run out of stuff or at least they kept on bringing more food if something was temporarily finished. I would stay there again but maybe next time I would try to get a bit bigger room.
