“Nice hotel”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

Had a pleasant weekend staying at this hotel. The location next to the train station can't be beat, even if it is a tad child-unfriendly. The nightclub next door is advertising the times for the girls to go on stage prominently.

The staff of the hotel is friendly, and the room we stayed in was comfortable and quite large. Some areas of the hotel are closing in on the time for a renovation though.

I had some troubles with the wireless internet in my room, but as this was a relaxing weekend away, it was not a deal breaker.

The hotel bar was closed on the Saturday, due to it being summer season, but there are plenty of watering holes around.

While the building is impressive, the room felt tired with old carpets and the place could do with a refurbishment. Internet did not work at all on my first night, and then only in the lobby on the 2nd. Not convenient at all on a business trip.

Breakfast was a bit disappointing. Location is very convenient, right opposite the railway station. But it is expensive and not really worth the 4* + price.

Room Tip: Quieter away from the road but no views

Just returned from a long weekend in Helsinki staying at the Seurahuone hotel. The hotel is ideally situated just a stones throw from central station (if you are arriving from the airport the Finnair bus drop off is just over the road) I had read some comments about small bathrooms and "had it's day" but have to say although our bathroom was small, the shower pressure was great and the bathroom was more than adequate. Our room was on the front, overlooking a very busy square (no problem for us) but if you closed the original double windows this shut off all the noise. As for the hotel being old and rather tired my take on this would be that it was an incredible building with loads of history. Breakfast served in the ball room was very decadent (and the food was very good). Also finishing off the night with a G&T in the bar was a hit. The staff were very friendly and helpful. In short a very enjoyable base to enjoy the delights of Helsinki.

This hotel does everything quite well. Mostly on average though but the premises raises my points to four stars and I kindly recommend this hotel.

Breakfast is average and so is the cleanliness of the hotel. Both could be better but are adequate.
So I would give it so far only average three stars.

Plus points for the personnel which is friendly, check in and out was quick.

But the building is beautifull and makes a case of itself.
It is over 170 years old and in a positive way you can feel it - not at all pompous but friendly and easy.
Ceilings are high everywhere, breakfast room is unique, rooms cosy.
But skip the elevator and take the stairs. The staircase is wonderfull.
Massive stone pillars and steps are just in the right places and walking on the stairs just makes you feel good.

Location is one of the best in Helsinki.
Some noise could be heard from outside busy street and you could also hear coughing and such from other rooms. Bathroom a bit worn in places but this can be forgiven for such an old building.

The hotel is situated in a beautiful old building. The room was quite small, but I was there only for one night so that did not matter. Very comfortable bed. Great price and the breakfast buffet was really good.

the only good thing is central location. Single room to small, especially bathroom. Impossible to regulate heating. most important, try to avoid keeping your lugage or coat at their closet. My colleague had done it, and it cmae out later, that Hotel had lost the key from that closet and he left Helsinki, in snow and windy weather without his coat. Terrible service.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear that your stay was not succesful. Our hotel provides different kinds and sized rooms. The building of our hotel is one of those protected premises in Helsinki and has over 175 history. Due to this fact some functions of the hotel cannot be changed to the latest technology that easy, like individual air-conditioning. Please contact the hotel's General Manager by sending an email to helsinki.seurahuone@restel.fi so we can find out more details of your inconvenience.
Your sincerely
Timo Vehmas

The thing that's most noticable is the look of the hotel. It's a beautiful old style hotel located very close to the railway station. Really classy rooms with high ceilings and classic and comfortable chairs and beds. Great breakfast buffee. Good price. Nothing to complain about really.
