We did this as we wanted an over view of Helsinki and didn't really want to pick just one place to spend a lot of time. This was the worst hoho bus experience I have had ( granted, that is limited to NYC and Dublin). The commentary was minimal, and repetitive, the stops and commentary kind of interrupted each other. I didn't feel like I learned anything, although I wouldn't have gone out to the Olympic stadium unless on this bus. Save your money, just walk the sites in the small city center.

Dull, in fact, extremely dull.
Hard to really think of any highlights, no sights worth viewing from the top of the bus. Only redeeming feature was the 300 yards by Kaivopuisto coastline.
Slow and very boring; but also quite expensive as well.

We chose the green line. Insightful commentary in 10 languages. A good way to get your bearings. The service runs every half hour. Time enough to hop off at most attractions.

Helsinki is a little gem here in the north country. Finland is essentially a country stuck between a rock (Sweden) and a hard place (Russia). They’ve survived by being neutral, but it’s been a delicate balance. For years the KGB and the CIA had offices in the same building.

Once again we did the “Hop On, Hop Off” tour, which is good if you’re on a tight budget. I think we may have gotten more out of this city if we’d done a more organized tour. Sometimes the soundtrack may not be perfectly synced to what you're seeing it seems, so you have to keep the information in mind until you come up to the next turn where you will actually see the monument being discussed. However we did see the Rock Church, which is carved out of a rock and has unfinished walls inside – great acoustics and lots of concerts are held there. Also saw Market Square (medium sized and had lots of fresh fruit and some tourist souvenirs), the Olympic Arena, Senate Square and some very lovely parks. Again, with the "Hop On, Hop Off" buses you get a brief description of what you are seeing, but nothing in depth - if you are only in town for a short visit you might want a more organized tour to get a little bit more historical information.

The Finns were out sunbathing everywhere (being as I’ve continued to provide Scandinavia with absolutely perfect weather during my visit here).

They’re big on reindeer in this part of the world and I could have had reindeer meatballs, reindeer steaks, a reindeer rug, reindeer soup …. etc. Couldn’t take a chance on ticking off Santa though – I’m staying on his good list as long as he’ll have me!

Traffic in Helsinki can be awful, but buying a ticket with the GREEN Hop On Hop Off service is worse!

Waiting for over an hour at Senate Square and Cathedral ------------- the Red Line buses came on four cycles before ours even showed up once.

With limited time in Helsinki we saw more on foot than this tour provided us. ................ shame on you Green Bus.
